Cincinnati: The Auction of the McKinley School

Several years ago, nine schools in Cincinnati, Ohio were auctioned to the highest and most qualified bidder. The McKinley School, along Eastern Avenue in the Columbia-Tusculum neighborhood, was one of those selected properties, with the auctions being managed by Higgenbotham Auctioneers of Florida.

The McKinley School was constructed in 1876 as a three-and-a-half story structure facing Tennyson Street in the Italianate/Jacobethan style, with red brick, vertical accentuation, pilasters, tall 12/12 windows and a gable roof. A two-story addition was constructed in 1919 fronting Eastern, contrasting with the original building. The new wing featured brown brick, terra cotta trim, and various motifs and decorative elements. The kindergarden doorway featured an art glass transom, and small Florentine glass windows flank the doorway. Total square footage equaled 44,326, and the combined buildings featured 21 classrooms, a cafeteria, three offices, a child care room and gymnasium.

Note the contrast between the 1876 and 1919 addition.

In December 2005, the McKinley School was closed.

In March 2009, the Cincinnati Board of Education selected McKinley among nine other schools that were authorized for sale. An auction was held on June 8, and a developer selected the school for redevelopment although the school district rejected their bid for the school. In July, the Irish Heritage Center, founded by Maureen Kennedy and her husband, Kent Covey of Hyde Park, submitted a sealed bid that was accepted. The bid was $180,000, and about $20,000 in improvements was spent on the physical structure.

The mission of the Irish Heritage Foundation was to “founded to promote the Irish Culture through the study of customs, dance, education, film, genealogy, history, language, lectures, literature, music, mythology, poetry, social interaction, song, sport, theater and the visual arts.” Events are held weekly.

As far back as 2004, this information was starting to surface on the web. Some entity(?) at the time of Bush's nefarious banking deals "had concluded Prescott Bush wasn't a NAZI sympathizer" so he was somehow given a free pass to run for the U.S. Senate in 1952.

Er...he moved around, and laundered great sums of money for the German NAZIs. He kept their cash locations secret, but he wasn't sympathizing with them??? ummmm....

Prescott Bush (1895-1972) was a tire salesman, then married into money...went to Yale/Skull and Bones and later in life he became a U.S. Senator. And of course he was the father of George H.W.Bush, and the grandfather of George W.Bush.

He was also a known money launderer for the NAZIs prior to America's entry of World War II. He was even warned to knock it off by the U.S. government. And oh yeah, he was even in a plot to overthrow President Roosevelt.

Prescott Bush's Wikipedia page discusses it. Plus it's all over the web for whoever wants to do a google search. Truly amazing how the media has kept this hidden so long.

This shocking video spells it all out. The interesting thing, this documentary is completely taken from info researched at the Library of Congress. It's a ten minute video, but totally worth any true-seeker's time.

I think I probably will. Romney is the only one I would possibly vote for if he was running against Obama, but that chance isn't very high. The other Rebublican candidates I think cater to much to the Tea Party or Libertarians and there is so much I disagree with them about. I think Romney will ultimately win the Republican nomination but the Republicans won't get their act together and unite to nominate him early. Those who are saying now that Santorum is the most electable against Obama are fooling themselves. Most Democrats like me, and even the majority working closely with the President's campaign still believe it will be Romney in the end. Romney is the only one who can beat Obama. A lot of Republicans are in denial about this. By the time many finally admit he's got the best chance to beat Obama, it may be to late and Romney will be a lot weakened by a divided, long campaign, which would make it a lot more favorable for the President to win. The Republicans need to wake up now and decide would they rather have Romney who they distrust, or the President who they even distrust more?

One of the smaller county seats in West Virginia, Marlinton traces back its history to Jacob Marlin, who along with Stephen Sewell, became the first non-native settler in the valley back in 1749. But Marlinton would not exist today without the assistance of John McGraw, who purchased land in what was called Marlin’s Bottom in 1890 – which was home to only five families along the banks of the Greenbrier River. In September 1891, McGraw, along with others, founded the Pocahontas Development Corporation and published a plat of the town on December 1. The company then donated a courthouse site to the county, even though the county seat at the time was in Huntersville. A vote on December 8 affirmed the decision by the citizens to relocate the courthouse to Marlinton.

The population was 100 by 1890 and only 171 just a decade later. The development of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad (C&O), which was essential to the growth of the town and the proposed timber industry, was slow coming due to the economic turmoil of 1893. During this time, McGraw, along with some New York investors, founded the Rochester Boom and Lumber Company. The United States Leather Company was founded two years later, which only fueled demand for a railroad.

McGraw began to negotiate with the C&O, and in 1897, the Greenbrier Railway Company was chartered by the state. Construction began on the railroad by the C&O in 1899 and was completed to Marlinton in 1900. The town was incorporated during that year.

Marlinton boomed, with the timber industry contributing to most of the rise in population and economic growth. Pocahontas County’s population increased from 8,572 in 1900 to 15,002 in 1920, and Marlinton increased from 171 to 1,177 during the same time period.

Today, the population has decreased to near 1,000. It’s once colorful C&O depot was burned to the ground several years ago, and Marlinton today is a sleepy village along a scenic U.S. Route 219 near West Virginia’s winter playground – Snowshoe and Canaan Valley.

Whitney Houston dead at 48

Wow people are sick. Room 434 in the Beverly Hilton is where she died and the room is booked for the foreseeable future. In fact, a guest is already staying in there. That is so creepy!

There is speculation that a mixture of prescription med and possible a combination of alcohol. Towards the end of her life friends said she became more spiritual and the day before her death she said she "wanted to see Jesus". I feel for her daughter. She has had to been taken to the hospital twice for stress. Whitney's daughter was "hysterical, exhausted, and inconsolable."
It has been reported that Whitney's daughter has been suicidal. She is really taking this hard as expected. Everyone pray for this family.

Did the NAZIs really lose World War II?

Of course Germany lost the war, but it's common knowledge that scores of high ranking NAZIs, and NAZI war criminals were whisked away to South America. And who smuggled them out of Germany to safety? Well, American and British intelligence of course!

It's so well known that Israeli intelligence has been sniffing them out in Argentina for decades.

After the war, many German NAZI scientists were also secretly slipped into the Area 51 research facilities. A not so secret thing actually....almost everyone knows it.

And now...American marines in Afghanistan openly and proudly posing in front of a NAZI themed flag. Good grief, is anyone else as outraged as me? Is this not a strong hint re: the right-wing dictatorship we are headed to?

^^ This doesn't surprise me at all. The more the American people see Obama's Republican opponents, the more people will flock to the President in droves. It will be a massive defeat for the Republicans in 2012, on the presidential level. And yes I have a crystal ball.

But Obama does not deserve re-election. I think he deserves impeachment. He swore, in 2008, to uphold the Constitution of the United States. He has failed to do so, as evidenced by his re signing Bush's Patriot Act. He also signed the NDAA which smashes the US Constitution to bits. Obama is supposed to be protecting the Constitution, yes? He has failed to do so, and he should be removed from office, let alone re-elected.

A Democratic Socialist's Ideas for the U.S.

I used to be a Democrat. For years and years. Then the Democratic Party shifted so far to the right there was no way I could associate myself with it any further. My personal values tell me that the Democrats are now just another warmongering, corporate party.

So I'm looking more to Europe for political hope these days. Democratic Socialism, i.e. countries like Sweden and Denmark. Nations where war and oil aren't the central focus of the country.

I'm much too far to the left to be considered a Democrat any more.

Here are some ideas I have for our country: (of course they're just my opinions, which don't mean very much-lol)

****Within 6 months close all foreign military bases. Within 6 months bring all soldiers home, and through attrition, reduce the manpower of the military to normal Western standards.

****Shut down the CIA, and seize it's billions of dollars in properties and assets.

****Shut down Homeland Security (one of the biggest shams in recent memory)

****Full audit of FEMA, and the Federal Reserve.

****kick out all lobbysts from Washington D.C., end the Electoral College, and have full election monitoring, even at the most minor levels, by U.N. agencies. End corporate contributions to campaigns.

****immediately set up a $100 billion fund for a massive new ARTS PROGRAM. Beautiful, inspiring statues, and works of art all over America. Expanded museums, art and music festivals, free to all citizens. Art and music classes free to all citizens that are interested.

****immediately end poverty, hunger and homelessness in the U.S. Yes it can be done.

****immediate massive programs to build bridges and roads and highways that are always needed.

If we just stopped these insane wars, we could be that kind of society. A happy, peaceful society, more concerned with new museums, than new military bases and war carriers.

I think crop circles are interesting. They have been linked to UFOs and many have seen strange lights in the skies the night before a crop circle was created. Many of these circles are hoaxes but some can't be explained. There are some where a high amount or radiation is detected along with other strange magnetic properties found in the circles. That rules out a hoax. Because of the shapes and complex patterns, its not likely a caused by a natural phenomena. But crop circles aren't new. They have been reported in the17th century.

You are correct, members are unable to upload images to this site until they meet the 10 post minimum requirement. I do this so that new members who are potentially spammers (we do get our fair share of those) cannot abuse the system.

Gosh, I didn't mean for this thread to become a discussion on religious belief, etc-lol

I think almost all of agree that people should have the right to believe anything they please. And even though I'm an atheist, I would be the first one on the streets fighting, if the govt ever tried to make religion illegal.

I brought up this prayer breakfast business because it's yet another highly questionable political thing that Obama is involved in. When Obama says he's a christian, we must take him at his word. But how many of us think the president actually does pray in private~

I don't care if the President is a muslim, a christian, a Jew, a Buddhist, a Hindu, or even a believer in Ra the Sun God. But whatever he is, even if he's just a boring atheist like me, he shouldn't be using it to pander for votes. (Crass is the word that comes to mind.) When I voted for Obama in 2008, I would have never imagined him being involved with such diversionary politics.

By the way, during the infamous breakfast, Obama spoke of his visit with Billy Graham....and how they had become friends. And prayed for each other. Isn't that just lovely? The President of the United States of America having a warm meeting with a known anti-semite and racist!

Obama said he was so inspired after Billy prayed for him......maybe the President should meet up with David Duke as well. He could get even more inspiration!

My issues is with the Bush tax cuts. The wealthiest Americans don't need such large tax cuts. Those tax cuts are part of the problems why this country is in so much debt. Republicans will say if you raise taxes on the wealthy it will be a job killer. Obama is not seeking to raise taxes on businesses. He wants to raise them on personal incomes of the wealthy. That doesn't affect jobs. The rich will still have plenty of money to help spur the economy. I am totally against a flat tax because that would lower taxes for the wealthy even more while raising taxes on the poorest of Americans.

"Trickle down economics" don't work because if it did, the economy would have been booming at the end of Bush's second term.

As for Obama's religion, I really don't care if he is Christian or not. He wasn't voted into to office to be a pope like figure. We are going down a dangerous path if we start combining religion with politics. Domestic and foreign policy shouldn't be guided by religion. That's why there is a big mess in the middle east today. Those countries have been fighting each other for thousands of years over religion.

I am a Christian, and Charlotteman, I only pray in private. The Bible does say to pray in private. The Bible also teaches free will, which America is fortunate to have. I find it ironic that I tend to agree with atheists sometimes more than self-righteous people. We are all equal, no matter what a person feels.

I do also think that Obama is not a true Christian, but that is just my opinion and I have no proof.

As far as the economy goes bad whenever a republican gets in office, that's just ludicrous. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal, and honestly, I think we need to raise taxes by 2%, lower corporate taxes, and cut entitlements by a TON. Everybody gives up something. Neither president is doing that, and it concerns me. However I think Romney would be most probable to raise taxes a little and cut entitlements a little. We'll see.

Unfortunately all politicians pander to some group. Romney is trying to pander to Latinos making his Latino heritage known and by showing members of his family on the Latino side. Gingrich was also pandering to Latinos hinting he would consider Florida's Marco Rubio for the VP spot. John McCain pandered to women by putting Sarah Palin on the ticket. A lot of women thought that was insulting. I wish pandering would stop on both side. Its so disrespectful to these groups. Bottom line, Obama hasn't been perfect and he hasn't fulfilled all his promises. But I'd rather have Obama any day over Romney or Gingrich. I'll be voting for Obama because we can't afford to turn around and go back. I don't want to see another economic collapse due to republican economic policies. Its amazing that people don't get it. Every time a republican gets in office, the economy slides.

Of course I totally agree. People have the right to believe anything they want. I'm talking about what politicians say in public in an official capacity.

My problem with prayer breakfasts, and praying in public, is that Obama is cheapening religious faith. He is blatantly trying to get religious fanatics' votes.

And he is doing so at taxpayer expense. We shouldn't sit by, and accept listening to religious extremism from the President of the US....... all that jesus talk, it was pure christianity. Religion is supposed to be separate from politics, yes?

And yes you're right, I wish Obama would just keep his supernatural ideas to himself. It makes many of us nervous. And I can imagine how those prayer breakfasts must go over in the European media. We're probably the laughing stock.

By the way isn't there something in the bible about praying in private?

At the National Prayer Breakfast on Feb.2, President Obama claimed his religious faith is a guiding principle of his administration.

Omigosh didn't we hear this malarkey from the most corrupt president ever, George W. Bush? And we saw what good religion did for Bush~

Remember when it came to public light that during Ronald Reagan's last couple years in office, Nancy Reagan was running the White House through the guidance of three famous astrologers?

Do we really want our national leaders claiming supernatural influences, and looking to the paranormal to solve the nation's problems? Isn't this cause for alarm?

And why is our government funding such nonsense? Imagine what it cost the Secret Service to set up Obama's visit to this prayer breakfast...our government isn't supposed to be involved in religion, is it?

Just another blatant lie of Obama....he's about as christian as I am, which is zilch. But he is proving he is willing to pander for the votes of religious fanatics, just with the best of 'em.

Must be a pain any time you are in the middle of cooking dinner and then realize you have to go to the bathroom. And how do you do any entertaining that requires you to cook food while your guests wait int he living room?

He did have some very innovative ideas, particularly for storage space. I grew up camping (soft style) where we had an RV. We would certainly do quite well with a 24 ft camper for a week, so I can definitely see people living on much less space. I think the big thing is learning to give up having so much stuff. It's a trade off- you can give up the stuff, but you end up spending more because you have to go out and buy the same thing over and over againg for infrequently used items. I wonder how green it is in the long run.

The GOP should be worried. A new poll shows Obama leading over Romney in a head to head match up in Ohio. Whats worse is that as time progresses, Ohioians have a less and less favorable opinion of Mitt Romney. No republican has won the presidency without winning Ohio.

While driving through Trimble County, Kentucky after photographing the Milton-Madison Bridge, I turned onto Kentucky State Route 625 and stumbled upon an old schoolhouse.

I then came across this photograph of what was called District Number 3 School, built in 1899. The architecture of the school is very much similar, and is otherwise an exact match of Pleasant Retreat Ridge with the exception of the bell, which could have been later removed.

A fairly crude map from 1921-1922 of the schoolhouses in the county excludes Pleasant Retreat Ridge.

The antiquated schoolhouses were consolidated into the new Trimble County High School in 1932. I assume that a companion elementary school had been completed at around that time.

Nice post! True no president will ever be perfect...

Our leader has already been appointed to us...like it or not we have 4 more years of Obama. Those state caucuses are rigged(see Santorum in Iowa) too long to explain in detail. The only other choices they give us are globalist puppets Romney or Gingrich??

Ron Paul has an interesting message; but he is not part of the "establishment"; therefore he is ignored and swept under the corporate-media rug; like he was in the debate earlier this week...has NO chance. Big Brother informs us Paul is not-electable. When the real fact is Gingrich & Romney are the "unelectable" ones....

The Republicrats are yanking our chains! They did a great job with the entertaining flavor of the month candidates...Perry, Bachmann & Cain...
