28th Street gets update in city's future plan

KENTWOOD -- In the future, 28th Street could take on a new look, with pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, landscaping along the busy road and a more comfortable feel for shoppers.

In the future, Kentwood could have distinctive architectural features welcoming visitors to the city.

surely the master plan will show up on the web soon.
then we'll see if this pedestrian talk is real or if it's just lip service.
in the article, maggie bohn seems to declare the master plan irrelevant even before it goes into implementation. tough break. the "vision" of the plan seems to reflect a domino effect of the GR master plan, which unlike this one was developed for realistic implementation.

oh, the vagaries of suburban politics.

Who cares? its Kentwood.

It's interesting, I just don't know where this would take place. 28th Street is packed. I wonder where the new architecture would come into play? Plus, most of the Kentwood portion of 28th is pushed way back from the street. If somebody could pull of new urbanism out of what is currently there, they would be a real master.

Wyoming is also trying to do this further down 28th. What they have done looks better, but it sure doesn't look anything close to a downtown.

I think Grandville would be the best 'burb to pull it together. They actually have a small "downtown" (a bunch of 1-2 story buildings on the same street) and if they changed the zoning laws, could pull together a pretty cohesive downtown zone.
