That seems like way too many condos downtown.  I sure hope that the housing boom doesn't cool down soon and leave that place empty.

I don't know that this is a perfect fit for this thread, but ... did anyone else notice that the Party Reflections business on Hawthorne btw 74 and Central was torn down last week?  More condos or mixed use?

Mostly condos and townhomes........

This will be a good looking project that will be very dense, though will not be particularly tall.....one building may be mid-rise but still sub-10 stories.

thanks. i love the elizabeth village project...except they never seemed to finish painting the outside of all the units. what gives?

*as a once painter, i tend to notice these kinda things. i also was eager to see how they were going to paint it...the side facing 74 is going to be very difficult.

Haha, yeah I'm not sure I would want to leave that thing open with no screen or anything. It's a cool idea though. I think the rendering of the building is pretty ugly.

That looks pretty cool - has anyone heard anything about Central 27? Has it started construction yet or what? I hope more projects pop up like this - Central would make a great urban corridor and the little shopping district has so much potential.

The costume shop hasn't been demolished yet. I don't know what the hold up is.

Unless he has changed his original plan, the builder who some good friends of mine are close with has said this was going to be a 17 story project.

I don't know if Conformity group can command the financing needed for such a project, but at least it shows high aspirations!

He's changed the original plan.....

It will be all low (townhomes) and midrise (stack flats possibly up to 8 stories).

8 stories will look really tall on that hill, especially from independence, which runs in a trench through the area.

(on a slightly related topic: I wonder if the density that conformity is adding to that site will cause CATS to look at ending phase I of the streetcar there instead of at the hospital.)

anybody know anything about morningside apartments. i heard a rumour that a groop of people (which included our mayor) purchased the property and plans to tear down and build big. i do know that it was on the market (20 million)... i also know that it is big tract of land. there is great potential here.

I don't know if it was purchased or not....I've heard for years that different groups have been interested but the current owners couldn't find a suitable tax-exchange property to roll their investment into....

I hope it sold, because they property has been one of the biggest negatives for that part of the city......and it really is a beautiful piece of land.

You know what needs to be happening to Central Avenue... become a central location for growing ethnic communities... Already, there are growing Vietnamese, Chinese, and Hispanic businesses over in that area.

there is a lot of clean up and renovations on the block bounded by Central, Hawthorne, Lamar and Sunnyside.  They have a sign selling off old bricks, so i guess they've torn down some structures.

There are some nice old bungalows on that block.

Today's Observer had a nice article about the building that will be torn down for Central27.
http://www.charlotte...rg/12856830.htm
So far 17 of the 27 units have been reserved. Not bad.
