Does that mean it will be good or bad?

good, since Common Market South End has been wildly popular and really very faithful to the vibe of the original.

its a good point but i'm not sure i feel the same about the Penguin. the Pinky's sign is still up, and it just seems like a completely different sort of place.

Looks like we've got up to 260 multi-family units coming possibly to the Bryant Park neighborhood.

I don't like it either, but honestly it is not a prominent location or one that is likely to ever see retail at its doorstep, so I can't say it bothers me that much. The price point for that neighborhood is not going to be that high (associated more closely to Wilkinson than to the Wesley Heights part of W. Morehead), so a more expensive urban building would be a tough sell.

Retail or no retail doesn't matter. the 4 buildings placed cockeyed in a sea of surface parking is the problem. Its the complete lack of any attempt at urbanity. 260 units surrounding a central parking deck would have taken up 1/2 the space and they could have put the rest of the land up for sale or use it for future development. This siteplan is disappointing crap.

I'm definitely disappointed, I guess I'm just saying I'm not surprised in this case. In this area I'm probably more upset about the completed Wesley Village, its even gated!

If I had to guess, it'll probably be more apartments in the style of Wesley Village.  Site plan is not ideal but at least the parking is shielded from the road by buildings.  I absolutely hate when you see a sea of parking in front and the building in the rear of the site.  And by looking at Google street view, this parcel and road could use some major upgrading.

The site for the new apartments on Millerton Rd. have a very steep grade change from the street down to Stewart Creek / Greenway, it drop off more than 20 feet. some of the building will be 4 stories on the parking lot side and 3 stories on street side. It is a hard site to work with. You cannot see the site from Morehead Street. From what iI have been told they are going to be market rate apartment.

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry has purchased the former Beazer Land....back in September or so.  CP&F will seek to rezone it back to I-2 (industrial) from MUDD, maintaining a strip of green along West Morehead, but otherwise expanding their operations onto the site.  How does this synch with the City's most recent long term planning efforts?

I was afraid that is what they would do when they purchased the land.

They appear to be putting up fencing. Makes me wonder if they're going to use it as a storage yard.

How much did they buy the land for? Is it even possible that it was so cheap that this kind of use makes sense? Boggles my mind.

If they're using it as a storage yard, that will set it aside for eventual future redevelopment. Buying this land, which is already cleared and already next to their existing facility, certainly costs a whole lot less for them than relocating their entire facility or buying up other, already developed land nearby.

Chain link fence is going up. Based on the fence, it appears that they are not putting much money into the site (not even a concrete pad). A good thing I think.

I had thought that Charlotte pipe had bought property in Stanley County and was planning a complete relocation back in the bubble era. Anyone know if those plans still exist?

Thought it might interest people to see the site plan for the Pipe & Foundry 'expansion'. Assuming again that it will be temporary (although I'm now more pessimistic about HOW temporary), this at least TRIES to look tasteful. It puts a significant green space and sidewalk improvement along Morehead, a treeline to hide the storage yards from sight, as well as a Pipe & Foundry 'gateway' at Morehead & Clarkson. I'm not too keen on the gateway since it will look very office park-y, but all of this is marginally better than the wasteland that's there now. I just hope it doesn't mean we're that much further from seeing real redevelopment take place.
