I was riding on the Swamp Rabbit trail today, and it appears there is an old river bank about 100 yards to the east.

Meadowbrook Park is a historic name.  The old Greenville Spinners used to play at Meadowbrook Park, which was either at the specific site or near to the site of the new Meadowbrook Park.

Here is a mention of it in an article about the Northgate Soda Shop (Nolan Ryan used to eat at the Northgate when he was a minor-leaguer playing at the old Meadowbrook Park).

The ball field shown here is, I believe, Meadowbrook Park...it's just off of Mayberry Street (hence the earlier name of "Mayberry Park").  If I recall correctly, the original Reedy River Master Plan from a few years ago had called for the G-Braves to build their downtown ballpark on this same site.

Panning over a little bit, it's amazing the stark contrast that exists between one side of Academy Street and the other.

WSPA reported this story yesterday, although the 180-acre park, which will be located along the Reedy River just west of downtown, has obviously been in the works for at least a few years now.  I am glad to finally see the artist's renderings and hear an update directly from Mayor White.  He has been the primary enthusiast for this project since its earliest proposal.

It is good to hear some news on this! The renderings do help visualize what may result of this. I hope this spurs lots of redevelopment west of downtown...

I like the fact that the City sees this as an opportunity to bring more housing downtown. Good move!

Thanks for posting !!

Glad to see this is still on the oven, even if on a backburner.

I was SO disappointed to see the Hitashi deal fall through, because that would have allowed the relocation of Public Works.  That is the first major hurdle that has to be cleared for this to become reality.

The Journal has an article about this park. Mayor White says that Public Works should be relocated out of the area by the end of 2012.  The city owns 70% of the land already intended for the the park's use.  It will be similiar in size to Atlanta'a Piedmont Park.

White projects a 5-10 year build-out.

It's nice to hear some "hard" facts, more or less about this project.  HOPEFULLY this will lead to some redevelopment and investment even before this thing truly takes off...  This is going to be HUGE!

Major article in Greenville News about Swamp Rabbit Trail and the Reedy River Park.  This year the city will start the process of moving public works.

City Council will vote tonight on a plan to buy 33 acres on Fairforest Way for a replacement Public Works facility.  The city would spend $3.1 mm for the land and to prep the site.  Funding will come from the 'Stormwater Fund'.

Obviously this is in preparation for moving these facilities out of the Reedy River Park footprint.
