It's going on the former site of Wings Sports Grill on Capital Circle.

Good, it'll be great for the football fans that come in on the weekend and the rest of the citizens of Tallahassee.

As far as malls go, the two in Tallahassee are pretty sad. Although when I lived in the area, shopping there was a treat since most of the better malls were hours away. Unortunately, I don't believe Tallahassee is quite ready for upscale shopping. I do think Tallahassee could attract a retailer like Nordstrom easily, but I don't see an Armani store opening any time soon. :) Based on what I've seen of Feldman Properties, I really don't think this is the developer to bring in better retail stores. They seem to be in the outlet mall business, but an Off 5th wouldn't be a bad idea for Tallahassee Mall...

Taurean J- Why eat at Cheesecake Factory when you could eat at any of Tallahassee's local restaurants? I can think of 5 off the top of my head that are 10 times better than Cheesecake Factory. Besides, this summer you'll be blessed with a Ted's Montana Grill. We don't even have one of those in Charlotte! :)

We have established the fact that the Malls in Tallahassee could use some improving. But surely they aren't as bad as you make them seem.

We're excited about the Tallahassee Mall purchase for the reason that it has over the past few years seen a decline in retail quality, and vacancy in this mall has increased.

Here you see some of the Tallahassee Mall's more successful retailers, other quality retailers exist within this mall that I couldn't photograph tonight:

But here you see some of the second rate stores I credit for lowering the quality component of this mall.
Posted Image
the image doesn't show the numerous holes that have been around this sign since they moved into this mall over 5 years ago.

Here is a look into the interior, as you can see the cheap fixtures around the door and the discount store racks.
Posted Image
(That was for CityBoy)

meanwhile these other second rate stores have popped up and often go out of business because they fail to draw customers, mainly because of the way they present themselves from the outside.
Posted Image

Meanwhile, Goody's one of the mall's other strong stores, is just lonely down there by itself.

Reason this new ownership is so exciting. If discount/outlet approach is what the developer brings to this mall, that will be much nicer than empty walls, and vacant storefronts. I'm excited!!

^Man, what a sucky mall.  I've been in there a few times, and was never "impressed".  But at least they have B&N.

well i like the mall, but then again we still need improvements. I miss that arcade they had a while back. I think it was called Q-zar. It would be nice if they brung something like that again to the Tallahassee Mall.

Qzar was the name of the place. It would be nice to have that place back.

^Oh, I'm thinking of a different arcade....  A much smaller arcade on the second floor, where the mall does that weird split-level thing.

Took these from my car when me and my lady were leaving Play it Again Sports. BTW, they don't have Play it Again prices, stay away from there.

I think a "premium" outlet center like the ones in Ellenton and Orlando would be nice at that location and serve the market best, along with an open-air section with the movie theatre, like lakelander mentioned. Or make the entire thing open air...

TaureanJ, I know about the decline of Tallahassee Mall. I honestly haven't been back to it in a long time. When I was living there, I made the switch to Governor's Square like most people did I guess. Also, neither mall was a good fit for me because I can't find some of what I like to buy. But it was a mall, so I went... :) And yes, Ted's is expected to open this summer. I don't know an exact date.

BTW- Do they still have the comic book expo at Tallahassee Mall? I loved going to it because taht was my closest source of Roberta Gregory comics...

Honestly, the idea of an Outlet Mall isn't all that bad. Considering you'd be getting great brands from high quality retailers at a low price. This mall would truly thrive if it went Outlet.

The outdoor deal sounds good... but I'm not so sure I'd like to shop at a completely outdoor mall.

I seriously doubt these developers are going to change it into an outlet mall.  It would be pretty foolish to get rid of solid retailers like Parisians, Dillards, GAP, Barnes & Noble, etc. and replace them with outlet chains in an unproven market.  Most likely, they'll probably just make minor upgrades and become a little more aggressive in recruiting quality retailers and restuarants to the center.

There is no outlet mall in Tally.

^Yeah.  Its not a knock against Tally.  For the most part, successful outlet malls operate in markets with a decent tourism base or high metro population.  As of right now, the outlets in Destin pretty much fill the need for these types of shops in the Panhandle.  While Tally is growing, its still to early to risk converting a mall with nearly 1 million sf, into an outlet center.
