if only someone will make a phone that's just a phone.

What They™ need to do is make a phone that works BETTER as a phone, in terms of auditory feedback, so people don't feel as though they have to SHOUT into the thing.  I don't know what it is -- it might be that a cell phone gives you no feedback through the earphone, like you used to get with a regular ol' telephone, which induces the shouting.  But whatever it is, the telecom industry needs to stop the fixation with bells and whistles, and find a way to end the shouting.  That, friends, would be a far more useful innovation than being able to look up recipes in the supermarket, get Google maps anywhere, or even my favorite feature I thought was stupid until I got one, the camera.

Recalling Apple’s early days. The man who guided Apple Computer through its early glory years offered a group of Brown University entrepreneurs some advice. http://www.projo.com...REE.fb3533.html

The video ipod has been out for two years, the gen 2 nano for one year.  Both products were due for an overhaul.  Regarding trade-ins, you can always sell an older iPod via eBay or Craigslist.

I love how a price drop = evil in the blogosphere. Early adopters knew what they were getting into, the drop is earlier than most expected, but we all knew it was coming. There are also several avenues to explore if you were an early adopter to try to get some sort of refund (probably not $200, but something).

If you bought your iPhone before August 22, you may be eligible for an instant $100 electronic credit toward the purchase of products at the Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store.

Apple rolled out their G3  iPhone today and as expected, lines were long at the Providence Place Mall store and at other retail locations around the world. This year's model comes in at $ 200 which is $ 400 cheaper than the original iPhone. In certain cities the G3 can access the internet at twice the speed as the  iPhone. And like last year, AT&T experienced trouble getting some of the units on their network.

No frenzy, but Rhode Island shoppers line up for latest iPhone

Apparently the lure of new gadgetry wins even in tough economic times.
