Vinashin Tower
Saigon - South Vietnam

A 55 story retail and office building. Current status is unknown.

Hanoi Imperial Plaza
Hanoi - North Vietnam

Imperial Plaza is a 122 000sqm building which will be built close to the city center of Hanoi. The tower contains a shopping mall, 13 stories of office, a 190 bedroom hotel and 240 apartments.

Bitexco Tower
Saigon - South Vietnam

Bitexco Tower in Saigon is one of the largest construction projects in Vietnam history. The ground was broken in april 2005, and the tower construction is expected to start in june 2005. When its completed in 2007 it will reach 270m, with 61 floors, as the tallest building in Saigon and Vietnam.

City's tallest building project closer to reality

HCMC's tallest building project is getting closer to reality as the city government has allocated 5,000 square meters of land in town to local property developer Bitexco.

The site of the 60-story build*ing, excluding six underground floors for parking, is surrounded by Hai Trieu, Ho Tung Mau and Ngo Duc Ke streets in District 1's Ben Nghe Ward.

Bitexco will spend US$96million on the building to be supported by a steel framework and covered by glass.

The first four floors will be for showrooms of cars and high-end products, and the remainder for of*fice space and convention centers.

Speaking at a meeting with the relevant authorities over the project in early February, city chair*man Le Thanh Hai threw support behind the project as it was totally financed by local capital.

Work on the building will start late next month if site clearance and compensation are completed as scheduled, and will take 30 months, according to the investor.

This will be the country's second tallest building behind the 65 -story Hanoi City Complex in Hanoi in*volving Luxembourg's SA Coralis, which was licensed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment in late January. The Hanoi City Complex will cost US$115 million.

The 33 -story Saigon Trade Center in HCMC is now the country's tallest building.

Bitexco now operates the 19-storey Bitexco building at 19-25 Nguyen Hue Boulevard in District 1 its first property project. More than 6,000 square meters of office space in the building has been leased out since it started operation a year ago.

The company is developing two apartment buildings at the moment -The Manor in HCMC worth US$85 million and The Manor in Hanoi valued at US$125 million.

Saigon Pearl Development
Saigon - Vietnam

The 10 hectare site is located 4 minutes from Ho Chi Minh City's Central Business District and along the bank of the Saigon River.

The development comprises 8 residential blocks, 4 office towers with shopping mall, an international school and 124 villas with underground parking and complete infrastructure, such as road network and utilities including water and power supply, centralised liquid petroleum gas and sewage treatment plant.

The project owner of the high-rise buildings in the development is Vietnam Land SSG Company, a joint venture between Hong Kong and Vietnamese companies. Phase 1 will comprise the construction of 2 residential blocks of 38-storeys with a total GFA of 74,000m2 near the river and associated infrastructure.

The 135m tall residential blocks will comprise underground parking, 3 levels of private facilities including restaurants and bowling centre, gymnasium and health center, swimming pool and approximately 544 luxury apartments.

Meinhardt is the local consultant for the international design team which includes Ronald Lu & Partners (International) Limited, Levett & Bailey, JCL Consultants Ltd and Greg Wong & Associates.

Meinhardt is providing local design and construction practice including regulatory requirements and managing approval formalities. The main challenge faced by the project team is the tight schedule set by the project Owner for design and construction. Design commenced in September 2004, piling works will commence in late November 2004 and the target completion of the phase 1 residential blocks is by the end of 2006.

Saigon Plaza is a proposed 65 story tall mixed use building close the same height as Bitexco Tower which is currently under construction. The tower contains offices, a shopping mall, a hotel and residentials.

House of Parliament
Hanoi - North Vietnam

An artificial modelled landscape with organically flowing contours built from local limestone surround the new house of parliament with two artificial mountains. Posts arranged on a grid support a cloud-shaped glass roof . The landscape rises to a height of 5.50 m. The differences in height produce dynamic changes in views towards surrounding historical structures.

Local tall tree types in groups spread through the site, especially in areas planned using Feng-Shui principles . The building ensemble uses Asian design principles coupled with the technical efficiency and functional clarity of western design. The landscape architectonic concept infiltrates the spirit of the place and generates a growing energy.

I didn't realize Vietnam was so progressive in building.

There's a cool restarant at the top of the trade center. Quite nice.

The real estate market has essentially imploded in Vietnam in the past year although you won't find the reality of that anywhere in print in Vnam. It is a reality however as it is in China as well.

Rentals are moving well though with a huge amount of people moving to Vietnam for various reasons.
