1.2 million sq. ft. doesn't necessarily mean a tower will be tall.  A tower could be 20 stories and have 1.2 million square feet.  If a tower is 20 stories, that's 60,000 sq. ft. per floor which is about 245 ft x 245 feet.

Yes, you are right.  But the parcel in question is roughly 22,000 square feet in its footprint.  That translates to at least 54 stories if there are no setbacks.  And who builds towers these days with no setbacks?  I'm not saying it will be a supertall.  But it appears that it will be another major tower for the city.  In comparison, the Bank of America tower in Atlanta is 1.2 million square feet and is 1,023 feet tall.  Yet the IDS Center in Minneapolis is also 1.2 million square feet and is 776 feet tall.  It all depends on the footprint and the floor-to-floor heights.

And it has to be said that all of this is still speculative.  Several sources close to Ryan Companies have indicated that the tower (being designed by Pickard Chilton) is going to be in the 1.2 mil range, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.  I'd love to see another tall tower for Minneapolis, but I'd also love to see any midwestern city expand its skyline as well.

As much as I love my home town GR, we have a WAYS to go to compare to the likes of Chicago... I all honesty there is no other DT in the midwest that even comes close.

By the way, the question was best midwestern downtowns, as in plural.  not the greatest midwestern downtown, which, obviously is Chicago.

A local paper in North Carolina mentions Brady Street in Milwaukee. I looked around UP for a while but could not find much. I am especially interested in pictures if anyone has any but any comments on this district are appreciated. Thanks.
