I may sound a little homerish on this one but Jacksonville is the city both my wife and I have decided to retire in.

I couldn't imagine living in the same city for 50-60 years only to move somewhere else for the last 20 or so.

I have 50 or so years to go.  But anyways...........................Little Rock.  Because I'll probably have the same reasons as Viper.

As it stands now, I had to vote for Charleston.

I want to know who voted for Atlanta.  :D

I got a while to go myself... but at this point it looks like I'll be resting in the Spanish-Moss draped shadows of Tallahassee Florida.

Charleston out of those on the list.

I also think Savannah, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, or southern Louisiana would be nice places to retire in.

My long long term plans include keeping a place in South Florida but also retiring to the country in either the Florida Heartland (Hardee, De Soto, Highlands, Polk counties) or one of the small towns in the Florida panhandle close to the water.  I voted Tampa as it's the base of most of the heartland.

Crap, I knew I forgot one....Savannah (let me see if I can get that rectified). I also hear that Oxford, MS is becoming a popular retirement destination.

It depends - Charleston, Savannah or New Orleans or somewhere on the beach in Florida.  That is if it is in the south...

I have no desire to retire (a little early for me to think about that) but if I were to I would retire to Lake Norman and go sailing all day.

So far it doesn't seem like anyone wants to live their golden years in luxury in Hilton Head....or at Magic Kingdom. :)

Well, I wouldn't mind retiring and working at Disney World. I think one of the coolest jobs for senior citizens is driving the tour boats to MGM Studios and Epcot.  ;) I voted for Jax, though...what can I say?! I tell ya, that city is just so cool. I'd probably live on the Southside of the city limits and in or near Clay County or St. Johns County, closer to the beaches and golf courses.

Live in Charlotte, but could definately take it easy in Charleston. It was a toss up though. I could have chosen B'ham since it is my hometown. You always tend to gravitate to that which you know. It is just like that with people. I have to agree with Viper. I do not really want to live somewhere for 50 years, raise a family and then up and move to an area I do not really know. Not to mention, when you get older it is nice to be close to friends and family.

I voted Nashville, just so I could be one of those old guys you see line dancing at the Wild Horse Saloon. But seriously, I voted for because I've never lived anywhere else and wouldn't want to leave what I've become very fond of.

Charleston sounds appetizing to me, though I wouldn't rule out downtown Orlando, downtown Miami, or Miami Beach.  All three of those cities should be urban meccas by the time its time for me to retire.

Something to consider...

Birmingham as a preferred retirement destination? “Move to a state with no death tax. A growing number of retirees are relocating to Alabama, California, Florida and Nevada to pass up to 16 percent more of their estates on to their heirs.” Robert Powell, CBSmarketwatch.com

I would need two places.   For the summer a place in the NC Mountains to escape the heat.  It is great up there during the summer months.   In the winter, one of the Carolina's cities would be nice most likely in Charlotte.   I simply could not imagine moving back to S. Fla again.   This is if I were to retire in the South.

A house/condo in central city New Orleans or Memphis for the winter; a cabin on a lake in northern Minnesota for the summer.

I'd prefer to stay in northwest Arkansas.  But going by the selections available Little Rock.
