My friend's firm is working on a completely different project with the developers out St. Johns Town Center, that's located outside of the state.  As far as I know, another firm has been brought in to complete SJTC phase II.

So it's not Simon properties and ben carter (I think) finishing the rest of the project now?

No they're still the developer.  They just have another architecture firm working on phase 2.

South Florida shopping and Internation Plaza in Tampa is a WHOLE lot better than St. Johns Plaza

Yes, it is, but keep in mind that you're comparing the main upscale mall of a 2.5 million metro, with one in a city barely over 1.2 million.  If your shopping options are worse, then you've definately got problems.

Hey gjoseph, thanks for the input.  You're a real benefit to have on the forum.

If you're just wanting to bash Jacksonville, do it in the Tampa area.

Well, I would hope so.  If International Plaza can't compete with a barely completed, no major upscale anchors and stores in phase one of St Johns TC than IP has problems.  You can revisit the topic when phase two is completed.  Probably a better comparison at that point.

My advice to everyone is to ignore this guy. He's still in high school.  I highly doubt that he has been to Jacksonville let alone the Town Center.  He's probably never really been outside of the Tampa, Orlando, Miami area.  I mean this guy can't even vote.  No gjoseph class president and superlatives do not count.  Go watch an episode of Orange County and leave this to the "grown-ups"

Jmac -

I understand your statement, but that is an assumtion that he has never been to St Johns Town Center.

Also keep in mind that even if he is a teen, those are some of the most frequent shppers to places like this. They may not be buying as many Big ticket items as you or I might, but they stilla s a whole spend a great deal of money in malls. Furhtermore, He is right in saying that IN ITS CURRENT STAGE other town centers are better. As afh pointed out, it is still being built. Besides, ther is nothing wrong with there opinion AS LONG AS it is constructive, and not jsut meant to be rude. Wolfdawg is a frequenter here and I beleive he jsut graduated HS (Wolfdawg, correct me if Im worng). Ive never felt his statements were immature and uninsightful...

Anyway, not trying to single you out, just making a statement, Take form it what you will as no ill will is intended

Cheers
J

I would have no problem with his statement if it was made in a polite or constructive way, but he clearly meant it as a put-down.  I too just graduated High School, but i realize that being on a forum such as this requires a certain amount of respect and courtesy.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge a forumer based on his or her age. There are numbers of good, mature formers here on Urban Planet under 18 who have valuable input and questions.

I always say lets not let one bad apple spoil all the good fruit.

In saying that I would like for our friend gjoseph to jusitfy his statement with some type of example.

I aplogize to those I offended.  Based on gjoseph's past post I know that his last post was not constructive criticism.  If you go back and look at the things he's posted and topics he has started you'll know exactly where I was coming from.  No I don't feel you were singling me out by the way. I really felt that he didn't have a point posting that.  There was no logical explanation or anything.

They haven't officially announced them yet.  However, I did notice the other day, while driving on JTB to work, that a number of construction workers were at the phase 2 construction trailer.  Maybe they're getting close to starting.

Sounds good, but, the company that's developing phase 2 is no longer Simon am I correct?

Simon and Ben Carter, are still the developers.  However, the architect that designed phase 1, didn't do the work for phase 2.

I work at St. Johns Town Center and I will try to get weekly updates of the happenings at the mall.  I will try to post a link to the site soon.
