Also, what metal frame building is being constructed off the right side of 95 North right before the TF Green exit?

This is a new Stop & Shop and Lowe's development on Greenwich Avenue - on the site of the old Apex store.  They're also working just south of that site on a major reconfiguration of the intersection of Main Ave. and Greenwich Ave. (Routes 113 and 5)  That project should take about 18 months but anybody who lives nearby remembers the Greenwood Bridge job.

Does Warwick really need ANOTHER Lowe's? I guess this one will allow all the actual Warwick residents to avoid going to Route 2 to do hardware shopping.  But still...

Not to mention the Lowe's in Cranston, on Garfield Ave on Uncle Joe Paolino's land. That's three in a 5 mile radius.

I've been wondering the same thing... it's tucked into the grassy area between the highway and on-ramp.

My guess is that is a new salt shed and equipment storage facility for the highway crew.  If so, they could have picked a better location or at least will hopefully plant some shrubbery to screen it...

lowes is trying to capture the RI market
if you were their strategy plannersm, would you not do the same to stem the tide of home depots?
these stores talk a lot about owning markets and market share
this is how they accomplish that among other things

I was in the Lowe's in Seekonk last night and most of the workers were already complaining about how dead it was there.

One of the problem these stores will face is that they will be the first retailers hit during a housing bust.  If people can't cash in on their equity, they won't do big improvement projects.  And small builders/contracters who use places like Lowe's and HD will not have as much work.

I think the market is already oversaturated.  From my place in Pawtucket, I am less then ten miles away from 3 Lowe's (N. Attleboro, Seekonk, Cranston) and 6 Home Depot (S. Attleboro, Seekonk, N. Providence, Johnston, Smithfield, Warwick).  The Johnston HD, incidentally, was built there because Lowe's was looking at the property and not just because HD thought they needed a location there.  If I am willing to go 15 miles, I can add Lowe's in Woonsocket and Warwick and a HD in Mansfield.  It's crazy.

That may be the new New England Institute of Technology building. Actually it's a second campus.

The shed's going up in the same place it was before, in between Route 37's eastbound and westbound sides next to the 95 interchange.  Hopefully it won't collapse this time

Is the Lowe's going to have a second story, or is the extra steel just going to be part of a cheap facade?

My guess is a cheap facade that will hide the HVAC. Personally I'd rather look at the HVAC than fake dryvit gables and whatnot.

The "wharehouse" concept calls for extra high ceilings.  It will only be 1 story, but will have the height of much more.

Federal Hill members... what's this all about?!

The Villas at Federal Hill (Ridge St and Tell St.)
1 and 2 Bedroom Condos starting at $159,900

I can't tell if they're selling the current apartment units in the current building, or if they're gonna demo the house and build a bigger structure.  The price leads me to believe its the former.  Does anybody know any details about this?

There was discussion in another thread about condos, conversions of triple deckers to condos, and whether the Providence condo market was ready to take on these type of units.

That's it... in front of the yellow on on that corner triangle.  I should call the agent but I didn't write down the number.

 $159,900 to live in a triple decker on Tell St.?!

Its hideous...
"almond" vinyl siding and plastic door special from Home Depot. Although, it IS affordable. If someone really wants to get in the market, there ya go. That same crap in Somerville MA (not THAT different from Fed Hill) is going for high $380's now. Ouch!

Does anyone know what they are building next to the Center for Women and Enterprise in Fox Point on George M. Cohan Blvd?  The building next to it burned down last year and it looks like they have a replacement going up.  Does anyone know anything about it?  How it's going to look?  Who is building it?  The old building was quite nice, and it's a large structure in a visible location off of 195.

Behind Rhode Island Hospital, there is a 3-4 story brick building at the corner of Plain St and Oldham bordering the ocean of RIH surface parking that's actually quite nice.  They've been gutting it for a while now, and were punching out holes today in one of the brick faces for what I guess is a new window.  I'll ask around and see what's going in.  I had heard that Foundation Medicine was getting new space, maybe this is it.  Again, I'll ask around...

I was in Howard today (no, not at the prison) and noticed a building going up at the New London Ave entrance. Is this the new traffic court?

It would have been nice if they put the new central registry, operator control and the traffic tribunal all in the same building, or parcel of land. It would be like one stop shopping for all you violators out there.
