Yes, quite a nerve-racking battle that was!! I was literally jumping up and down when VCU knocked down those treys! And the fact that we've beat them at their home court makes it even more exciting! Sadly, afterwards I went to the Robins Center (using Press Pass tickets by RTD) and watched the Spiders get knocked down by George Washington at the last few seconds. It was also at that point that my wife (who stayed at home) texted me saying Whitney Houston had passed away.... talk about adding insult to injury....  But still, I hope VCU holds on to that 1st place title! The CAA tourney is literally a few weeks away! :)

Last night's loss to George Mason was a cliff-hanging heartbreaker for the VCU Rams.

And you better believe I watched it, too.... I had came back from a V-day dinner with my wife, and decided that I was going to watch. When that GMU player put down that three at the last 4 seconds, my jaw dropped and literally stayed like that for 5 five straight minutes.... and as I watched the Patriot Center fly into chaotic celebration, I had realized VCU had just been knocked off 1st place in the CAA

In a BracketBuster game, VCU goes up against Northern Iowa tonight (Friday, Feb. 17th) at The Siegel Center at 7PM

I suspect it is sold out.  You can watch it on ESPN2

Burt, your assumption gladly prove to be true.

The Rams have sold out for the 17th time straight. They are still 1 of only 5 teams to have done that still. :shades:

http://vcuathletics..../20120216varx0d

This is quite a crucial game for the Rams, after their last-second (literally) heartbreaker loss to George Mason on Valentine's Day, a loss that sent them out of the number 1 seed of the CAA, keeping in GMU and Drexel. Even though the loss was very important and heartbreaking to Ram Nation, the fact that we are still committed and selling out routinely at the Stu shows how fantastic we are. :fun:

Also, the article from VCUAthletics above is pretty interesting. Both have connections to the Kansas Jayhawks, because in the two consecutive NCAA tourneys, 2010 and 2011, both UNI and VCU have sent KU home early, and both won ESPYs for? You guessed it: Best Upset.

Last night I watched the VCU/UNI BracketBuster game up here in New York on ESPN2.  And those Northern Iowa boys got 7 out of 10 3-pointers in the first half.  But ultimately, The Rams went on to a 77-68 victory before a boisterous full house at The Siegel Center.

This video of a post-game round-up by Shaka Smart of last night's game includes considerable footage of play on the court -- all of it from VCU's point of view.

I missed this while preparing to watch the game last night, but according to RVANews sports writer Aaron Williams a pre-game event featured a civilian shooting a ball from center court.  A VCU student drained it and won Papa John's Pizza for 7,617 fans.

The U of R Spiders defeated Charlotte by one point last night at the sold-out Robins Center.  The final score was 53-52.

Now this is an embarrassing question and reveals how little I know about basketball.  Who is Charlotte?  In John O'Connor's coverage the full name of the school is never mentioned -- not even once. Is there a Univeristy of Charlotte?  Could it be one of the several Universities of North Carolina at (city name) or some other school in The Queen City?   Maybe The Bobcats were in for a little off-schedule sport?

It seems a bit disrespectful to omit the team's full identity. :shades:

It's University of North Carolina at Charlotte. They made the final four in '77 and have made the NCAA tournament about every other year from 1988-2005. The 49ers were in Conference USA before joining the A-10 in 2005.

^To add to that, UNCC (as it's referred to down here) is a part of the UNC university system much like UNC-Greensboro and several other universities in the state. There has been talk about changing the name permanently to University of Charlotte (which many civic and university boosters would prefer), however I think there's some legal issues there because the school is technically part of the UNC system. They are commonly referred to as the Charlotte 49ers for athletics purposes only. This was changed in the last decade or so when they were routinely in the NCAA tournament (I guess UNCC tied too many tongues? Or maybe they didn't want to confuse them with that other school in Chapel Hill--god forbid). I don't follow the 49ers very closely, but usually pay attention when they play the Spiders. They usually have some solid basketball games when they play each other. I'm sure they'll play each other in football after the 49ers program starts in 2013. Most people that follow college basketball in the A-10 know who Charlotte is Burt, so I don't think the writer was being disrespectful :)

Tonight's 6PM game between VCU and George Mason is THE big one for both teams who are tied for 2nd place in the CAA.

It will be the 18th consecutive sell-out at VCU's Siegel Center.

ESPN2 will air the game, so if you can't be there in person watch it at 6PM tonight.

You bet I'm going to watch it!

Being a HUGE supporter of the Rams, I am SO happy for their successes following their famous Final Four run. The fact that they are STILL selling out is a MAJOR win for ticket sellers, and it shows a sense of pride that the region has for it's collegiate athletics. Also, I think this is the second national TV broadcast on ESPN2 after the BracketBusters game against Northern Iowa (which we won of course :)). This really keeps alive the nation's love (or plain viewing) of the Rams, since they stole their hearts last March. One can only hope that some year they will reignite that spark and do it all again....

Here's to a great and successful VCU Rams season. :alc:

And the Rams win it all, 77-89. Bradford Burgess tops it all off with a career high amount of points, and the Rams get the most season wins in school history. Plus, after this, the Rams have locked up the 2nd seed of the CAA. It will face either 7th seeded Northeastern or 10th seed Williams & Mary on Saturday, March 3rd at 6:00 PM with a first round bye.

NOW, here's to a great and succesful VCU Rams season. :alc:

And directly after the good Rams' win, now the nation watches Xavier go at it with the Richmond Spiders at Xavier's home court. The nation's college b-ball fans' eyes are on RVA tonight, folks. :)

SportsQuest has been evicted from their basketball courts and gym facility. Signs are being torn down and membership phone lines are down. What could this mean for SQ?

SportsQuest is a sham. I feel bad for all the people who signed up and paid for "memberships" that will not get their money back.
