i went from paying $650/6 months to paying 1190/6 months without EVER having had a moving vehicle violation, an accident or any kind of claim and i've been a customer for over 15 years AND i had my motorcycle insurance with them so i was getting some kind of discount. Now, we pay approx $750 for exactly the same coverage with Ben's insurance (USAA, which i think is only open to military, retired and family of military) with a lower deductable, and 24 hr roadside assistance.

Sorry, but i'm not paying the caveman's salary anymore!

see... i'm not military, so i don't get special deals like that.  like i said before, mine doubled when i moved from CT to RI, but i priced out other places, including liberty mutual where i got a group discount, progressive, amica, state farm, and all state and they all were more, with the exception of liberty mutual, which saved me $50 a year.  not worth the hassle.

Mine's 1500/year full coverage, and I'm a 22 year old male.  I have it so my address is North Kingstown but I remember when I lived in Pawtucket I got a quote and it was only going to be 1550/year.

i have full coverage only because i have to (my car isn't paid off yet).  it's about $2400/year (a little less actually).  i'm a 27 year old male with a perfect driving record and discounts for having the same insurance company for over 5 years as well as a discount for having a "theft deterrent system" which is the VIN etched on the windows (i didn't pay for it, it was like that when i bought it).

I guess Progressive realizes that my car is a total POS and I won't be claiming any minor fender-benders thanks to my 'dent-resistant' side panels...  And it's tough to get above 85mph in the thing.

actually... i think the whole drunk driving law is flawed.  they test your BAC, which doesn't show your ability to drive.  in fact, one drink, which for most people would not even get them buzzed, nevermind affect their driving ability, is all it takes to throw you over the top.

Someone actually got caught drunk driving in Providence?  I'm shocked!  Honestly I've never seen so many people drunk driving all weekend than in Providence.

Police to crack down on drunken driving

PROVIDENCE — Police Chief Dean Esserman said yesterday that the Police Department, which has focused on other problems in recent years, will put new emphasis on arresting drunken drivers.

Esserman said that the department has brought down violent crime, so “we’ll be able to devote more and more of our resources to other concerns,” particularly drunken driving.

^This shouldn't be too difficult.  Pull over EVERY single person driving home at 2:15am and there ya go.

since there's a bottleneck downtown at 2am anyways... just walk by each car with a breathalizer.  it can't be that hard and requires just as many cops down there as they have now.

It actually takes 2 officers up to four hours to process one drunk driving suspect. Some smaller towns only have two officers on the road at night, or not many more than two. You can see how this would be a problem for the department when all or most of their force is tied up with one issue. That is why historically you've seen other remedies to this problem by the police like taking a drivers keys, escorting people home, calling people cabs...

If Providence had more of a bus/cab mentality associated with its club-goers (like many other cities) then we wouldn't have such a problem.

  That's exactly how the Providence Police have been handling the situation. They also take people to RI Hospital emergency room.
