There are a couple developments in Paragould worth a quick mention. TaMolly'sand Chili's are both under construction and are set to open this year.

How interconnected are the economies of Jonesboro and Paragould?  I've always been suprised that Greene County isn't included in the Jonesboro MSA.  Walnut Ridge is also close enough to Jonesboro that it seems possible that Lawrence County could be added to the Jonesboro MSA at some point.

How many folks commute into Jonesboro from Paragould and Walnut Ridge (or elsewhere).

If Greene and Lawrence counties were added to the MSA, that would push the MSA population up from 113,300 to 170,370.

Jonesboro is primed for extreme growth and it does make you wonder why those countis are not added to the MSA of the city.

Paragould is considered a part of the CSA. Total population as of 2006: 153,421. The CSA includes the Jonesboro MSA (Total 113K : Craighead-88K and Poinsett 25K) and Paragould Micro SA (40K).

Lots of traffic back and forth between Paragould and Jonesboro. There are three highways that connect the two cities:

US 49 sees 12,600 vehicles per day.
AR 351 has 4,000 per day
AR 141 has 1,200 per day

These are the numbers where the highways cross the county lines. That's a total of nearly 18,000 vehicles per day... Greene County has more traffic with Craighead than any other neighboring county.

According to the Memphis Business Journal, MBC Holdings, the same company that developed the Mall at Turtle Creek, is purchasing Indian Mall.  The company plans to redevelop Indian Mall, creating 700 jobs, with sales of more than $70 million each year.  They hope to attract 4 new anchor tenants, some of which are new to the Jonesboro market.

They just finished striping the final section. There are a few barrels in Tyronza, but other than that, everything is done. Not sure when the official opening will be. They still have to get the signage completed.

According to the KAIT interview last night, Mr. Burrow plans to purchase the property from the Warmack family for $14 million. MBC then plans to invest over $50 million into renovations, bringing in the aforementioned 4 tenants (one of which will be the existing Sears).

Another NEA update:

NEA Medical Center (the smaller but better...imo...health care facility in Jonesboro) has been bought out by Baptist Memorial of Memphis. 60% is now owned by Baptist and the remaining 40% by the NEA Physicians group that owns NEA Clinic. This is BIG news for the hospital as Baptist has immediately unveiled plans to add 50 new patient rooms, a cancer center, and a new doctor's complex.

Official press release

NEA Medical Center currently has 104 beds.

Baptist is a great organization that should prove a health-care operator for that facility and in serving the needs of Jonesboro. The facilities they own and operate in West Tennessee -inside and outside of Memphis- tend to have very good reputations.

Probably the busiest restaurant in town. Haven't even been yet though.
