You did mean Gameday and not the Marriott on Gaines right? I just want to confirm. I would have loved to tour the inside of one of those rooms just for comparison. I'm also growing increasingly excited about the Aloft Hotel going up on the Floridan block.
I think surely this hotel will be a big boost to local economic development efforts in that area and city wide -- it being located in that business park where it is, and sponsored by Rick Kearney. Seems much of what he gets involved in turns out pretty good. Very nice access for someone who wants to be in Tallahassee but enjoy the peace. The whole time I was there I kept thinking to myself this would be a nice retreat location for the City and County to have their yearly get-away meetings.

Speaking of Residence Inn, I am very disappointed in their landscaping. I remember the rendering showed palms trees which of course peaked my interested, but when I drove by the other day there was barely any landscaping to even speak of. The place looks cold and stark as you see it from the street. While I love palm trees, this is not the my problem w/it. The problem is no landscaping period. At this point I'd even settle for some Crappy Myrtles there.

tallahassee has landscaping requirements and i am sure they were part of the original hotel being approved. as a result of same, the city should be able to enforce the placement and planting of same. maybe they are waiting to do it last? i don't know... i'll have to drive by it this weekend on my way to the Titans game.

I'm glad to see that side fo town growing also. I hope we (the City, County, and State) can invest the funds necessary to improve the infrastructure out there before growth hits really hard with Welaunee and Fallschase among other things. This is one of those areas of town where it is still possible to build roads effectively and I hope we don't squander the opportunity. But the hotel is nice and I was so glad they allowed me that tour.

^Poonther, I was just making calls about this project. Do you think at 4992 sq. ft. that this Seven Hills Business could be a fast food joint?

Add “hotelier” to Rick Kearney’s impressive resume. The chief executive officer and president of Mainline Global Systems and developer of Summit East is the owner of a new Staybridge Suites extended-stay hotel, which opened in February. Kearney said a hotel always was part of the plan for the 116-acre office park housing more than 20 technology-related companies, located just east of the U.S. Highway 90 exit of Interstate 10.

According to their website, FCCU is selling their current Mahan Dr. HQ (leasing back the first floor for a branch), and building a new facility at Summit East to consolidate many of their other back-office operations.
Very short story on the FCCU website

I also think this is a great move for Florida Commerce. This move gives the impression that they are moving forward with their aggressive plans to grow the company beyond Tallahassee.

Though we have talked about it before, it does still send a shiver down my spine. To think it could've been DT... maybe a smaller footprint and more height...

We see eye to eye on this. I've had that same feeling so many times.
