Greektown is still the least isolated of the 3 casinos.  Its just going to be at the end of the Greektown district and mind you its just the hotel portion.  That gaming area will remain where its at, just expanded.

I had a chance to look at some of the renderings of the Greektown hotel and the casino expansion.  I found it amusing that many of the details are actually Roman rather than Greek.   But that's the architectural nerd in me.  I doubt most people would notice the differnce.  A column is a column, right?

Considering that Greektown really isn't Greek, anymore, and Corktown isn't all that Irish (understatement), I think it's alright for area architects to introduce generic southern Europeans elements in designs.  lol

Really, it's all Greek to me.

*sorry, I couldn't help myself*

Someone who is willing to flush their money down the toilet there isnt gonna care at all.  I havent seen a close enough rendering to tell the difference, good eye gecko.

I was thinking of that when I remarked about the hotels base.  I can't tell much from the cullumns in the rendering but the arches over the first floor windows are more Roman than anything.

Well, I think it looks good either way.

One bad thing about the 3 casinos building such consolidated facilities is that people can park there, gamble, eat, watch a show, and go home without ever having to venture around the city.......

I guess the alternative is risky, as if the casinos require people to walk too far, then people may not go.....but I am surprised the city did not require some limit on non-gaming facilities within the casino compex during the years of issues prior to these projects getting off of the group.

Greektown (approved) is keeping theirs pretty secret as well, though they released some very flashy prelim. renderings a few months ago.  I was told by a contact at Rossetti that this is not completely designed out, yet.

That looks a lot different than the pics on the Rossetti website

Those pics are older.  The one Lmich posted was in the newspaper recently and is the most up to date.  The ones you got there Speck are from when Greektown planned on moving.  It has decided to stay put and expand at its current location.

Someone at Rossetti told me that even the newer renderings are not fully complete, and some tweaking will be done.

Oh silly me.  I couldnt have been curious if the tweaking involved a nicer street level presence, or a larger parking garage or scrapping the nice glassy facade for a stone one.  I mean I really didnt want Lmich's opinion on the changes either.  What I was really curious about was did Rosetti make the design worse intentionally.  Thanks for answering, now Lmich doesnt need to respond at all.

No need for the sarcasm, especially since all they told me was that they were refinning the design.  When they responded to me, they gave me no detail on what they were going to do to the current design.  Just for future reference, if I ever have some important information, and have not been told that I need to keep it to myself, it will be posted.

When an architect refines, it usually means cutting stuff out.  I can't wait to see a solid a glass box on top of a brick base, not won't that look great!

I like the older design better....it looks less like a bank

I think the new design fits in better with its new neighborhood.  I dont think the new one could have gone at the original site on Gratiot and vice versa.

Exactly.  The old design would have fit at its site, but not at the current site.

Progress is being made on the mysterious MGM Grand.  Maybe it will go the way of the I-94 Gateway bridge and look like a football (standing upright)  lol ;)
