for me...Athens is the number 1 city in Georgia...beats Savannah, defenatly Atlanta, and any other. It has a walkable community, great history, little to no traffic (compared to ATL).
Oconee is just white bread sprawl...blah. boooooooring!

I read that the Athens multimodal transportation center was recently completed, and it will eventually accommodate the commuter trains to Atlanta when it happens. Does anybody know anything else about this project?

I think they are ready for trains anytime now. The real question is when will there be any passenger trains running between ATL and ATH?

I like Athens and enjoy my business trips there. I really enjoy wearing my University of Tennessee necktie when I visit my customers there after a Vol defeat of Georgia!! (Yeah, I know, I'm risking my life. But I luv doing crap like that!)

I was recently in Athens for the Summer Commencements at UGA. Here are a few pics I snapped while there.

There's only one arch there, champ. If you're looking for famous arches, head over to an old McDonald's like the one on prince avenue. Just a little pet-peeve of mine... people know what an arch is, but when they see that thing(a single arch) they call it 'the arches'.

Hotel Indigo to open in Athens
Quote
Atlanta-based Rialto Property Partners LLC plans to develop a Hotel Indigo in Athens, Ga. The boutique hotel at 500 College Avenue will have 100 rooms and will encompass an entire city block to anchor the north end of the downtown district.
A competition is planned for UGA graphic design students in the Lamar Dodd School of Art to design an Athens music-themed mural for an exterior wall of the hotel. Works from local artists will be on display, and a music venue within the hotel will host local musicians.
