there are some other family resturants downtown that are open in the evening.  monsoon noodle house is open and i'm not sure what kind of atmosphere lime leaf has.  there is also a subway but i guess that's a little different.  i agree though, i wish that there were some more family oriented restaurants in downtown.  i would also love to see a tea bar in downtown somewhere.

speaking of olive garden, i heard a rumor that they were looking at buying stefanos and putting one of their restaurants there.  I think that would be great if that strip along union was completely redeveloped with some nice retail and maybe even residential and offices.  there is certainly a lot of potential with that abandoned shopping center in cedar springs.  I think it would be great to put the residential near the sports complex.  Cedar Springs could become a really nice part of town.  right now there are a lot of eyesores and i've always thought that road is really random with the business on it.  I see a ton of potential there.

Thats true. I had forgotten about those. I am just thinking that Greenville has places like Sticky Fingers, etc. and we do not have comparable places just yet. I was under the impression that Lime Leaf was on the expensive side of things? I really just want there to be more restaurants and other types of entertainment in general downtown.

Thats a great location. That would really help out that part of Union St and Cedar Springs Rd. I am fairly certain that shopping center is not abandoned. Isn't Big Lots still there? Either way, I understand your point. That place is in dire need of a face lift. I think that when they finish widening 295 it will be a more desireable location.

I was over in the Hub City tonight. It's been a while since my last visit, but let me say that downtown looks great! The square thing ( ) looks absolutely awesome! The  impression that I was left with was: "Columbia". I don't know why, but for some reason, it reminded me of downtown columbia. Only the good things about downtown Cola, of course   . But for real, I was impressed and it made me proud to say that I'm from Greenville-SPARTANBURG!  :)

Spartanburg FINALLY has replaced its Director of Planning, Bob Klute, who retired months ago. The new director is Stephanie Monroe, who is the current head of the Spartanburg office of Upstate Forever.

Don't complain about the new garbage collection fee, which totals $18 per year. Our friends in Columbia just recieved a fee increase of $37 which puts their total fee at $205 (from $168) for curbside collection.

Actually, that's the rate for Richland County. I think Waccamatt said they don't have those fees in the city, or they're not as high, or something to that extent.

Yeah you're right. I read that too. But still its not much... and the city is hurting for money right now.... which is one reason the consolidation movement has been started.

This is an interesting article in the HJ today about the recent explosion of coffee/tea shops around downtown.

http://www.goupstate.../607020301/1026

It raises a good point... is there enough to go around? Or will some of these shops start to fold?

Please contribute to this discussion about the future arrangement of the Greenville and Spartanburg forums. We may comine the two. We may leave it alone. We need more input from Spartans.

I like it the way it is also. I like being able to see whats going on here, without sifting through Greenville stuff. Also I think this may lead to some friendly bickering that may become unfriendly

Since I came in after the poll and stuff concerning Greenvile/Greer, I just wanted to thank Spartan for leaving the forum the way it is.  As long as I know where to look for something I'm good.  However, I  don't think of a project totally in Spartanburg county as a "greater Greenville" project, but understand the compromise.  Same thing with GSP.

As far as Spartanburg posters, I agree that we need more people to read and share their knowledge about Spartanburg development, but I'm more concerned with the quality of post and not quantity. (my opinion).  I'd rather read a few significant post than 2-3 pages of the merits of Piggly Wiggly.  I would love to read more in the Greenville section, but get bogged down.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words hub-city. You are exactly right, and that was ultimately one of the deciding factors in my decision. I would just assume use the County line as the reference point, because I, and many fellow Spartans consider Greer a part of Spartanburg too. I know I always have. The airport is something that I have never considered "in Greenville." Though to hear some Greenvillians talk you'd think it was.

One of the goals for both sections is to encourage more constructive and intelligent conversation, less banter, and simplicity in locating topics of interest... so expect to see more of it. Other forums do not do this. I have always maintained that eliminating the Spartanburg subforum would be a bad idea. So don't worry, it isnt going anywhere!

As for Spartanburg, yeah, I wish that more people would comment on anything/everything. We have a lot to talk about... and it is by far one of my favorite subjects to talk about. We just need more people to take enough interest to sign up to UrbanPlanet and participate. This is the ONLY place to find this type of discussion on the 'net. For those of you that do participate, it is very much appreciated. For those of you who lurk in the darkness, please joined the enlightened circle and share your thoughts.  :shades:

I fly several times each year and I generally use Charlotte instead of GSP. I live on the East side of Spartanburg and its only about 15 minutes more to CLT because their airport is so far South of the city and the choices are much better. I usually stay 7-12 days and the savings just to park are huge. I think this is just one more advantage people living in Spartanburg have over people living in Greenville. We have 2 good choices of airports and Greenville only has one. I was on a shuttle recently and coincidentally everyone on the shuttle was from Spartanburg (9 people in 3 different groups), another reason GSP is more used by G'ville people than Spartanburg. We also have a much better Interstate system than Greenville and I think the recruiters should use these facilities to help sway companies to Spartanburg.

Charlotte (CLT) has been one of the costliest hubs due to US Airways dominance there.  But you're right, Spartanburg is within an hours drive of Charlotte and that gives us another choice besides GSP.

Good, affordable air service is very important to companies seeking to relocate and expand.

Everytime I fly, I always check out rates at GSP, in Columbia, PTI (Greensboro), and Charlotte. Charlotte consisitently has the lowest rates of the four.
