The old apartments are empty and ready for demolition.  McBee Station should be starting soon.  Here are a few "before" photos as this plot of land will change drastically!

Thanks gsupsate!  I was hoping someone would get some shots before the demo started.  Man, it will be nice to be rid of those eyesores.   I will say this though, the grass looks like carpet.

Has anyone seen any renderings of McBee Station?

There is a old brick apartment complex next to these that are coming down as part of the project.

I have seen a rendering of the site plan, think it was in the paper, but it has been a while, I don't think it was ever available online.

Who is the developer on this project?

I agree about them being eyesores for downtown.  There haven't been any renderings from a ground-level view made public yet.  I saw one in the Greenville News which was a nice 3D aerial view of the layout.  The architecture will be key to the overall and future success of this project, in my opinion.

Today's Greenville Journal has an articel on McBee station that includes a rendering.

Article mentions that rather than tearing down the apartments on the property, that they will be donated to Fire Department so that they can burn them down for training.

The Project will start in January.

It's lousy imaging quality, but here's the rendering for those that don't get the Journal:

Edit: Notice they forgot to color the railing green...

If they burn them on site, which I'm assuming they would, could be neat to watch.

Heck ya it would, and a great photo of the progress.

16 Buildings is alot to burn, I hope they are reaching out and giving training oppurtunities to Wade Hampton, Boiling Springs, Greer, Pelham Batesville and all the other Fire Departments in the area.

It is nice to see a rendering.  That is going to be a really nice use of that space.  It looks like it will be pretty visible from the Church Street bridge as well.  I am looking forward to seeing a street-level view of the project also (from McBee).

Not directly physically UNDER the bridge, but next to it, on McBee.

Sounds like a great setting for a UP bonfire social !!

Do you think they'll burn all of the buildings at once or just use them for practice, one at a time?

Ah ... I remember paying $175/month in rent ... for 1 bed out of 4 in a 2-BR apartment in college.

I can't imagine anybody living on $175/month in this day and age, especially without any government subsidies.  :shok:

Yeah,

Two friends & I shared a 3 bedroom house in college for $150/month each, in Binghamton, NY.  Of course, that was in the late 80's.

The stint at Treehouse Village was between '88 and '92 as well.  Now that I recall, it started out at $155/month and ended at $175/month 4 years later.  Of course, it was "furnished," too, if that has anything to do with it.  *SIGH*  Those were the best days of my life.

McBee Station should be a pretty good development. I was excited to learn that it was the host of both a Publix AND a Staples. The Publix is to have a back-lit sign like the one at the old Confederate Printing Plant in the Vista in Columbia. It will also have a two level parking garage, with parking for the residents underneath, and parking for the retail stores on top. Its a really sharp looking development.

Speaking of... The Publix in the Vista is for sale.  Saw it on Loopnet.
