This is kinda cool.  The first ever flag-to-flag fully televised race in NASCAR history happened at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in 1971.

A couple of totally unrelated questions / comments:

- Did anyone get a photo of the NEXT Christmas tree?  Without a doubt, the coolest Christmas tree in Greenville and I didn't get a chance to photograph it.

- The new Subway on Augusta Street.  Did the city impose the design of the building?  I was totally shocked to see the great detail of this building for such a simple business....two story, all brick, great roof detail.  Nice for the neighborhood.

I'm pretty sure the owner implemented the design and detail on his own accord.

Speaking of Augusta Street, the shopping center that used to contain Eckerd/Rite Aid, and Augusta Grill has gotten a huge makeover. While it looks a hundred times better, I wish they'd torn it down and tried a mixed-use development. I REALLY want to see the area around Historic Lewis Plaza to become an urban node. It's got GREAT bones already, with its streetscaping, block length along Augusta, and its ties to the residential areas on both sides of Augusta Street. All we need are some mixed use projects to impose some greater population density, and structured parking. If I had won the MegaMillions drawing last night, that would have become my little project...

-I didn't get a picture of the tree but did see it. Pretty sweet looking. :)

-The Subway was designed by DP3: http://www.dp3archit...augusta-street/  I'm pretty sure it will be the only silver LEED certified Subway in the country. It was the owner's decision to rebuild the restaurant like this.

Agreed.  I drove by it on Saturday and was surprised at how good it looked.

If anything, I'd like for that neighboring Dollar General to depart; seeing that sign is not good for the area's image.

Good to see local business owners thinking this way......Greenville is growing up.   :)

I noticed architectural renderings for at least two different projects posted inside the Poinsett Hotel window along Main Street.  One is an apparent renovation of the Crescent Center at The Point.  The other is a seriously intriguing design and is called "World of Water."  Does anyone know more about these?  I've heard about World of Water before, but can't recall the details.

CNN filming in downtown Greenville today. They have a satellite truck set up in the parking lot at Main and Broad.

What was the story?  Has it run yet?

Not sure what they were filming or when the story will air unfortunately. I'm guessing it's for that city series CNN is doing though. They recently did Greensboro and Charlotte.

Not sure if anyone else has taken notice, but the City has put up new anti-panhandling signs around the bus transfer center along Washington and McBee. I like the signs because they discourage giving money to those who beg in order to feed their addictions, but suggest instead that you should give to organizations that actually help such citizens. Of course, they're in the City's classic purple, green, and white branding scheme. I think it's a socially responsible approach that the City has taken.

***This is a test.***

I posted something in the downtown retail thread and it didn't trigger the normal response (thread didn't move to top, last update time didn't appear on forum homepage).

I had similar results in my last two posts, yesterday and today, in two other threads. Both times I received the same error message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@urbanplanet.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

(I'm now using Google Chrome browser, but that shouldn't make a difference.)

[Ed: Same thing when I initially posted this message.]

I've gotten that message off and on for the past week.

Also, what's weird is when I sign in it shows new topics posted under Greenville, but then nothing is highlighted after I get passed the SC page. I have to click on the topic from the SC page to bring up the new posts.

Perhaps this issue is browser-related after all. I just posted a new message using a different browser, with obviously a different browser configuration, and it went through without a hitch. The problem seems to arise when I use Google Chrome with some script blocking enabled but not when I use Firefox with similar (but slightly different) script blocking enabled.

LOL. Reminds me of that scene from Bad Boys 2 when porn gets played on the tv screens inside the electronics store.
