Ya know, "the Greenville Gritty" would have maybe worked.

Oh, give it up already, RT, and get used to "Drive."  :silly:

Maybe "the Greenville Spinners" with a cool looking spider for a mascot and a spider logo?

I don't know when to stop.

The T-Shirts actually look pretty good. Thanks for the link RT.  I guess I've made peace with the name.....after seeing some of the names of teams in other cities, the Drive is refreshingly simple and direct.

While I am still not a fan of the name, I have to admit that the logo looks good on those shirts.

Some bad names out there (GV's included).

Yes, they are really called the Tourists.  They even got some mention in "Bull Durham" when Crash went off to play for the Asheville Tourists to set his Home Run Record.

You jogged my memory RT.  Forgot about that.  I'll have to watch Bull Durham again soon.

Is there anyone (other than the 2-3 people who picked the name) who likes the name? I mean, seriously, anyone?

Actually I like the name "Asheville Tourist".  That is what the area is known for.  What else would be more appropriate, the "Asheville Biltmores", "Asheville Mountaineers", "Asheville Howard Dean Voters", "Asheville Bohemeians"?

Before anyone gets their pants in a bunch, I love Asheville and wouldn't chance a thing about it.

As for the question of "is the team staying or just visiting", all teams are "just visiting" until another city offers them more money.

I have not heard anyone speak up who has backed the name.  Not One.

I myself have come to terms with it, and will learn to live with it, but would never have voted for it.

A little off topic, but speaking of bad names, I tried an experiment.  I tried to find the Greenville Growl web site using only my browser address bar and no search engine.  I don't think it can be done without knowing the way that the name Growl is misspelled.  I tried www.greenvillegrowl.com/, www.growl.com, www.growlhockey.com.  Try it in the eyes of someone who is not web savvy and see if you can find it so you can see the schedule, buy tickets and ATTEND the game.

You forgot the Asheville "Subaru Driving Ski Racks" and the "VW Busses".    :D

I too LOVE Asheville    ....one of the great things about GV's location, being so close to Asheville.....I place Asheville up there with the Seattles, Austins, Burlingtons, Portlands and Boulders of the world.

I always enjoy reading your posts, gsupstate, but including Asheville in the same breath as places like Seattle, Portland, and Austin is a stretch in my opinion.  But perhaps that's because I am not very impressed with Asheville.
