But that Target, I'm guessing whe are talking about the one on University Blvd?  Is in a really good location and I don't see why it would close, even after they build the Super Target.....

Yeah actually you might be right.  It just seems like all of the University City area is dying... like the shopping where the HT is and Media Play was... and Chancellor Park Commons.  If anything, I can see Target moving closer to 485 or maybe to North Tryon

I never go to Concord Mills.  I do seem to remember though that IKEA is in Potomac Mills in DC so an IKEA locating in a Mills mall is something that could happen in Charlotte but I don't know how centrally located IKEA would want to be in the metro.

There are certainly parts of those shopping areas that are not doing very well, however that Target is always packed, both Home Depot and Lowes near there are always packed, and at some points during the day, there is nowhere to park at the Ghazi shopping center. I have lived in the University Area for 15 years, and have seen it change alot, but I have seen no signs recently that it is being abandoned for other areas (Concord Mills). That Media Play has been abandoned for years now, but the shopping center still manages to keep its head above water. In fact, most of the people I know who live in the University area try to avoid Concord Mills at all costs. With the light rail line eventually making it up to the campus , I think we'll see a lot of development towards making parts of the university area (especially right around the campus) very walkable and liveable.

I strongly believe that a Publix needs to enter the market, around Concord Mills Blvd and/or University area.....i think Charlotte is pretty much Harris Teetered out.....maybe Publix can fill in the gap that Winn-Dixie left.......kinda off subject but oh well lol... :D

Yeah I hope for Publix too but in reality I don't see it happening.  Publix and Winn-Dixie have two different customer bases anyway, WD competed more with Food Lion, Publix would compete more with HT... Publix might work in some of the former WD locations though.

Back to Concord Mills, Jimmy Carter is signing a book there

Well, Carolina Mall in Concord was there first (before Carolina Place).. so if anyone should change the name, it's the one in Pineville.

It's off Exit 58.  The mall's been remodeled some in the past few years, but I love the look of the exterior of their Belk and JC Penney stores at the mall

Univ City may not be dying, but it's not thriving either. Seems like the momentum is swinging away, towards the Northlake area.

FWIW, I thought Concord Mills was a fairly good mall when I lived in the area. Mainly visited it for the food court, though.

I think with the growing population growing in both Cabarrus and NE Mecklenburg that all areas including UC can maintain themselves. I dont see UC dying , if anything the area will have to reinvent itself. This will be a good thing considering its an automobile nightmare. I was talking to someone visiting Charlotte from Milan yesterday. She commented on the lack of Public Transportation in Charlotte. She did say it was a nice city though.
Hopefully UC can successfully develop a more urban atmosphere. Can you imagine the blight of N.Tryon stretching from uptown all the way to Cabarrus County. Thats a scary thought.

Check this article out. Jillian's at Concord Mills is getting a major face lift.

"One of the original anchors at Concord Mills is getting a new name and an almost Vegas-style facelift. Jillian's is becoming a Dave & Buster's Grand Sports Café and will start operating as such by Nov. 30. "

BTW, went to CM this weekend (it was busy as you know what). The hotel u/c is finally visiable from I-85 and Concord Mills Blvd. How many stories was this going to be again?
