Thanks for posting some pics NCB. It had been a long time since I had driven through Shreveport years ago and obviously I didn't get a very good look at the city. Any idea what the Red River District is like? I also liked the Kokopelli place in one of the pics. Seems odd that there is one there but it reminds me of the southwest. I find it interesting too that we have a First United Methodist Church here in Fayetteville and it looks rather similar to the one there too. Any ideas if the Festival Plaza is a bit like the River Market area in Little Rock?

The Red River District is an area around the Red River filled with things ranging from restaurants, sports bars and clubs, to shopping, and areas designed specifically from children. When I was there last year, I thought it was very nice. Shreveport is trying to improve its nightlife, and fill it with things other than casinos. The RRD is still a work in progress, as many new things are opening up there, but it's really a great little area for all ages.

I dont know enough about the River Market area in Little Rock to compare it to the Festival Plaza. But the FP is an area inside of downtown where all kinds of differernt festivals are held(I've been to food, jazz, art, and Mardi Gras festivals there) they have small carnivals there that are filled with smaller rides, and they have parties held there for many different occasions. I think they have a type of farmers market thing there as well, but I'm not totally sure.

Thanks mcheiss!
Shreveport has a city population around 200,000. And a metro population of around 450,000.
I like Shreveports downtown as well, its got a mid-sized, but nice skyline, IMO.

Here is a picture that I really like. Its a picture of some of the decorative lights that are supposed to resemble roses that line the banks of the Red River in Shreveport.

Ah, I see you answered a question that I just asked in another topic over here already. I guess Shreveport is a little bigger than I was thinking.

They great thing about a digital camera is you can experiment and if it doesn't turn out all you have to do is delete the picture. No wasting film or more money getting it developed. Just ask if you have any questions. :D

I apologize if this has already been answered, but to answer your question, the Red River District in downtown Shreveport is more like Little Rock's River Market District. Festival Plaza is just that... a "festival plaza." All the city's major festivals (with the exception of Mardi Gras) are held in that plaza. There are no shops or restaurants in the plaza, just vendors during festivals. There aren't many times during the year that the Festival Plaza is not being used, and the city did a great job in building it. They took an old wasteland (literally) and turned it into a first-class festival destination. A job VERY well done!!
