I've got some news on Ski Dubai and the Mall of Emirates.

Ski Dubai will officially open to the public on December 2nd. Ski Dubai is the only indoor themed ski resort to be found in the desert that has real snow.

With year round temperatures of -1F to-2F the Emirate's very own cold mountain boasts five ski slopes, snow-covered hills, chairlifts and, most importantly, real snow. With a slope height of 80m, and a width greater than the average motorway, the snow park has a capacity of 1500 people and offers a variety of activities for people of all ages and skill levels.

For experienced skiers there are black runs at the top of the ski hill, while for snowboarders there is a quarterpipe and tricks area. For the less experienced there are a host of friendly and well-trained instructors to help visitors learn the basics. Children have their own dedicated area that includes toboggan runs, ice caverns and places to make snowmen or just throw snowballs at their parents.

After the exertions of the slopes there are also a number of cafes that serve tempting food and drink. In addition the Avalanche Cafe at the mid-station offers spectacular views of the slopes.

Here's a few pics, renderings, and construction photos of Ski Dubai:

This one includes a rendering of Ski Dubai and the Mall.

Also.

Kempinski Hotels & Resorts, Europe's oldest luxury hotels & resorts group, will open a 5-star property at the Mall of Emirates next year. Kempinski Mall of the Emirates Hotel will be the group's first property in Dubai.

The 5-star Swiss Chalet-styled property will offer an unmatched 'alpine resort' experience including the world's largest hotel guestrooms. All of the 393 deluxe rooms and suites have spectacular views, either across Ski Dubai or the Arabian Gulf.

Leisure facilities will include a state-of-the-art health club including an Ayurveda wellness centre; infinity swimming pool and sun deck; tennis court and fitness center.

Yes, I saw that exact same program about a week ago.

Hard to believe all the problems they run into. Problems with the weather and wind, inproper welding, ammonia tank welds, etc.

Well, the Mall of the Emirates, is officially open!!!!

The Mall offers shopping, entertainment and skiing all in one place. The Mall is located on Sheikh Zayed road , and houses over 2.4 million square feet of prime shopping, leisure and entertainment space, which makes it  one of the largest malls outside North America, and in the Middle East.

It also includes the Dubai Community Theatre & Art Centre which provides a platform for shoppers and visitors to bring back culture, art and music into their lives, a 14-screen multiplex cinema, over 350 retailers, five stars hotels and over 65 restaurants.

Sheikh Hamdan, accompanied by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, cut the traditional red ribbon at the opening.

Hamdan also toured various department stores and facilities including the 400 metre long ski slope with varying terrain, a snow area the size of three football fields, over 6000 tons of real snow at any given time and a full capacity of 1500 guests.

Here's some of the stores open:

Jumbo Electronics has launched its largest ever store at 27,000 square feett mega-store.

MMI (upscale boutique)

THE One is know the 10th The ONE in the Middle East.

Reiss (the UK’s high street fashion label ) - First in the Middle East.

Rivoli Prestige (upscale boutique)

Braccialini

Virgin's 40,000 square foot mega store.

Cinestar Cinema's 14 screen theatres.

Barsita Espresso

Home Centre.

That's just a small share of the stores open in the mall. More will be coming soon, although I wish I could find a website.

I was going to say I thought the Japanese had something like this.  Didn't know it was torn down recently though.  I wonder why.  Course maybe they had more than just one too.

That's got to be an interesting view seeing it snow inside the mall, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT!!!

I haven't heard anything on mall occupancy, but I would think this is nearly occupied.
