Posted some of this in another thread, but this is really good news for Greenville as relates to the cycling world and deserves its own thread.

See the articles below about the USPRO Cycling Championship moving to Greenville in 2006.

Way to go Greenville (and the Cliffs Communities and Charter Communications and Medalist Sports and Southern Hospitality Group Event Management, too)!  :yahoo:

This is a great opportunity for Greenville!  I'd love to see us do well enough at hosting this to see it last well beyond the three years currently planned!

Between the BMW Roadster Homecoming and this, I'm going to have a busy Labor Day weekend! :D

Didn't realize those two events were the same weekend.  The hotels should be packed!  :)  Is this also Artisphere weekend?

I wish that the new race was going to remain open to international riders like the one in Philly always was. Either way, I am excited about the USPRO race being right her in Greenville. I'll be there for sure.

Any word on where the course for these will be?  I got the sense from reading these articles that both will be held in the Cliffs Communities somwhere.

This event could draw A LOT of people from out of town (participants and spectators alike).

I could not be more thrilled about this phenomenally awesome news!!! :w00t:   When I caught the 6:00pm news on WYFF, I couldn't contain my delight and started cheering at the top of my lungs (much to the surprise of others who gave me bewildered looks).  Does everyone realize the significance of this event moving to Greenville?  It could draw hundreds of thousands of people here to our beloved city.  The potential impact could skyrocket our downtown real estate market as well, if you imagine hundreds of thousands of visitors roaming the streets shopping, dining, and site-seeing while in town.  Once doing this even a single time, they'll never forget this place. and many will want to call it home.  I've got chills of Joy running up and down my spine!!! :D

I agree wholeheartedly Skyliner. :yahoo:

I love the way they tout the fact that we are "THE cycling community of all cycling communities" and "home to one of everybody's cycling super-heros George Hincapie."

Just another reason a few of these cyclists might want to call Greenville home.

^ Should be Greenville's new slogan!   :D    This event will bring in not only tourist, but a great group of tourist.  Look at the demographics of most cycling fans.....young, upwardly mobile, etc, etc.  Greenville has a chance to show the nation what a great city it is!

^I don't think the Greenville News ever reported this even though WYFF News 4 and the Greenville Journal did.

-Just shows you how much the Greenville News really does suck. It is one of the worst newspapers I have ever seen and read.

I believe Greenville News had reported this information quite awhile back.  It was initially released several months ago, although it became officially announced this week.

Chatted with a friend from Philly this weekend.  Those guys aren't happy about this.  He said it was a shock to those in Philly, and they were a little more than miffed.  May have been rubbing salt into the sore, but I told him to invite some of his friends and head down for the event in Greenville.

Yeah, people in Philly are upset. That race was a big deal in that area for a very long time.

Did everyone see Hincapie's editorial in yesterdays paper? This race really will be something great for Greenville. I can't wait.

Awesome editorial, JCT!   Thanks for the heads up.  I didn't have a chance to read the paper yesterday.  This will send a message to the doubters out there. :D
