It looks like there’s a big project under way that will dramatically change the looks of North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
Nabholz Construction is working on a $25 million-plus addition to the complex that includes a four-story building that will house 45-50 new patient rooms and a wellness center.
It should take 24 months to complete the project, and it will add around 125,000 to 150,000 square feet.

Harrison lost out a long time ago to Mountain Home, where Baxter County Regional Medical Center became the regional multi-specialty hospital for the region. Mountain Home was very aggressive, starting cardiac surgery programs and flying up physicians from Little Rock to help for years until the personnel were in place up there. They also have oncology, which is pretty rare in towns that size. Now that there's a strong medical community in place in Mtn Home and a large, well-equipped medical center (at least for a community that size) Harrison will always play second fiddle. Harrison easily could've done the same thing a decade ago, it's interesting how politics determine these things. Still, when you're talking about a lot of quality high-paying jobs by the standards these counties having a major hospital makes a massive impact on the community.
I'm sure nobody will ever read this in Harrison or Mtn Home, though, as I would bet neither would ever think they would make it on "Urban Planet".

I guess you have the general sense of 'urban' and then you have the Arkansas version of 'urban'. Of course there's some people who think of Little Rock as pretty small. I also think people in Arkansas generally use the term city for anything above 10,000 where I doubt many other areas do.

While that's true, I know enough people from Harrison to know they are country and proud of it.
It's actually a really attractive little town and has a lot to do for a town that size.
