An investment of Dh2 billion in a new residential golf community, Jumeirah Golf Estates, has been announced which will be designed by golf legend Greg Norman.

When completed, the four-phase Jumeirah Golf Estates will have four golf courses - Fire, Earth, Water and Wind - that will add to Dubai’s attraction as a golf destination and help boost the UAE’s tourism sector, officials said. The project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2007. Apparently the Earth and Fire courses are designed to inspire and motivate players on some of the most exhilarating fairways and greens anywhere in the world.

This could make Dubai one of the golfing capitals of the world, along with plenty of other topics.

Jumeirah Golf Estate's Phase A will occupy 375 hectares of the total 1,119 hectares and include the first two golf courses - Fire and Earth. Phase A will incorporate 10 residential communities comprising more than 1,000 individual properties, each set in landscaped surroundings with estates ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 square feet. Approximately 75 % of the properties will have golf course frontage, with the balance facing lakes, nature strips and parks.

Jumeirah Golf Estates will also feature a learning and training academy inspired by Norman.
