DBrok!
Hey, they have oil money, realized that their supply of oil was going to run out in 10 years or so (may be off on the timeline) and needed to do something to keep their economy going. They are betting on building a tourist and business hub out of thin air. "Build it and they will come". So far, it seems to be working.
Less than 10% of Dubai's GDP is dependant on Oil. Dubai was a city build on re-exporting and trading. But you are right about them becoming a tourist and business hub out of nowwhere. Strange to see how Dubai has evolved over the years. Literally 50 years ago Dubai was nothing more than a small city of a couple thousand in the Persian Gulf (A fishing Village). Hard to think that in time it will be the Las Vegas/Orlando (Tourist Possibilities), Miami (Miami style architecture/condos), Atlanta (New Dubai International Airport) and New York (Business HQ's)of the Middle East!

No worries, by the time they're done building over there, they'll be able to fit the entire world's population in their condo towers.  So you won't have to worry about driving anywhere.
