There's a lot of excitement about the Duke's Sandwhich location coming to downtown. It looks to be opening very soon. I hope they do well.

On College Avenue. Next to Tiger Town Graphics. They've been working on it for a while now and the finishing touches seem to be going in. I can't wait to have a slice of a Greenville favorite in Clemson.

A friend told me that a building in downtown Clemson burned yesterday. Maybe this will provide a nice opportunity to expand downtown down College Avenue and a great investment opportunity. But, I don't know the extent of the damage, so maybe not...

Depends on where it is and if it burned down or just the inside. It must not have been too bad though... I didn't see anything earlier today. I wasnt looking though.

I was in clemson today and it looked like the shopping center with the Thai restaurant and grocery, along with everything in that side of the strip burned down.

There was a sign in between the new condos and the new annex for the church on Clemson Blvd for a new midrise condo called...something or other Towers.  Looked to be a nice 5-6 floor building with quite a modern, edgy design.  The land between the condo and church is VERY narrow and now houses what looks like a bunglalow style house (what is that??) but the sign is there so I guess we will see.  Ill check tomorrow on the name of it.

Its called Tower Place I think. Its a stupid name. Its going to be 5 stories and it looks like it will be similar to the adjacent "highrise" in design. It will have ground floor retail/restaurant space, which is key to moving the College Ave atmosphere futher down the hill. I am interestsed to see how they will cram it in there as well. But at least that crappy old house is going to be gone! Its hard to believe that just a few years ago that was just trees.

Any guesses on who the 'National retailer' is?

Hmmm, this is interesting. Sounds more "big box" to me, but I'm not sure which retailer would choose Clemson over Greenville or Spartanburg for its Upstate debut.

Yeah, that's what I had heard also, but the sentence below seems to counter that:

It will be the retailer's first store in the Greenville, Pickens, Anderson and Oconee county area, Hopkins said.

A new mixed-use, town center style development has been planned for 179-acres on the eastside of Clemson.  It sounds nice.  Hopefully it will be as successful as the developer hopes.

This sounds like a good project. They just finished putting in a new water line on Issaqueena. The dust has literally not had time to settle and we are already seeing this project, plus two others that are going in just up the road from there. The housing market here is insane. I can think of 5 large housing developments (including this new town center thing) within a mile or two of my location. Whats interesting about it is that its dense. Its nothing like what you are seeing in the rest of the Upstate. The apartment market, however, is feeling a slump because there are so many new units opening or going up.

Then there's the old WestPoint Stevens Plant....

Clemson University unveiled a massive construction/renovation plan today that is expected to be complete in 3 years.  It will be the largest development of its kind on the campus since the 1960's. :shades:

This is great news for some of Clemson's older buildings- especially those built in the 60s-70s. The face lift will serve them well.

I have to say, though, I don't like the location of this "academic success" building/Center of Centers. That location would cut off any possible extension of the CAT bus route though the middle of campus, which will kill any chance of Clemson having a true "campus connector" that actually connects the campus during all hours of the day.

Sorry for that rant, but this is one of my biggest frustrations with Clemson. Campus planners talk about a pedestrian oriented, transit friendly campus, yet they refuse to use transit in the most effective way possible.

This is good news though. I am particularly fond of the student union renderings. With Barker's architecture background, you can be sure that these buildings will look nice.

I like the look of the Packaging Science building. It will be a nice addition to Lee Hall in that cul-de-sac.
