It would be greatly appreciated if anyone (especially Parisians) could assist me in learning how one would go about living in France; moreover, I would be grateful for more info regarding the Paris neighborhoods (arrondissements) and life in general in Paris. Merci beaucoup, et peut-être a bientôt! - Mitchell

Not having lived there, and only having been there twice, I would guess that the the arrondissemients south of the Seine would be prefereable. These areas are what is known as the Left Bank. That would be my preference, based on what people have told me.

We call Left Bank "Rive-Gauche".
Paris is regarded as divided in three parts since the Middle Ages : "La Ville", "la Cité" et "l'Université".
Today "La Ville" is called "rive-droite" (right bank), this area is more commercial.
"L'Université" is the "Rive Gauche" (Left Bank), always academic, also named "Quartier Latin".
"La Cité" corresponds to the "Île de la Cité", where was the first Royal Palace. Today this palace is "La Conciergerie" (see the Sainte-Chapelle, http://fromparis.com...r=000092&step=0 ), there are also the Palais de Justice (Law Courts) and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame.
Don't mistake : Paris-Rive-Gauche (or Seine-Rive-Gauche) is the name of a new area under construction with university, housings and offices just S.-E. of the "Quartier Latin".
Left Bank, near the Eiffel Tower, a new museum (39 000 m². Architect : Jean Nouvel) will open on June 23 : the Quai Branly Museum. It features 300 000 objects of Non-Western art.
