You'd think they could do a bit better than that clump of uninspired buildings- and what's that red thing on the right? Is this settled, or can we hope for something better in the end?

That ugly red thing is already built
It's the new Moakley Federal Courthouse....I think it's a work of Pei Cobb etc.
The rest of that cluster has not been started, though one or two should this fall.

Hopefully more variations in facade treatments will develop over time.

So, we have Two Financial breaking ground in June, Filene's (aka 1 Franklin) beginning in September, and Fan Pier beginning in October.
The race is on!
Plus, we have Russia Wharf ready to kick into high gear, and South Station Tower still planned to begin by the end of the year.

The Fallon Co. has awarded Turner Construction Co. the contract to build the first office tower on Fan Pier.
The 500,000-square-foot, 18-story office building will break ground in October and is expected to open by the end of 2009 when demand for office space is expected to be at a high, said Charles Buuck, senior vice president at Turner Construction. The building will cost $125 million to construct.

^ This came true....Fan Pier broke ground today, with the office tower the first building to go up. I believe the next will be a condo/hotel building of similar height.
