Very interesting.  If this thing were to blow wide open, it could very well signal some very large changes in the way that Dubai does business.

I can just see the look on the big guy's face  :shok:

In fact it wasn't actually the guys working on the tower that rioted but ones at the mall. Anyway, these problems are well known about in Dubai, there have been other cases, etc I will post some more links and details soon to other problems and aswell what's been done to stop them. The thing is that this particular case will be dealt with fast as has happened with previous protests but the thing is, there are hundreds of construction companies so this will take forever to stop.

600,000 workers in Dubai being exploited as "slaves", says Human Rights Watch:

Passports are being taken away
$100 - 135/month slave wages
Decrepit labor camps on the outskirts of the city
Workers need employer consent to leave their job
Workers are in debt owing money to the recruiters that brought them there
Scores of deaths and injuries on construction sites
Wages withheld for months to keep employees in place

Hmmmm, interesting.

Completely aweful. The U.A.E. government has a plan to induct 2,000 inspectors throught the emirate to inspect worksites and labor camps. I doubt it will be effective though. As well, this happens in other countries in the Mid-East.

This is often what happens when you have too little regulation on a market... people are exploited, often in degrading ways.

This is interesting because, at least where I live, construction work is one of the better paying "blue-collar" jobs.  Construction workers often make $15-20/hr. plus benefits.. which, while not enough to raise a family on a single income, is not bad for someone with little education.
