I'll have to check, but I thought the plan was to do it each winter until Charter Square is built. AFAIK, these rinks are essentially large kits and as such are portable(inasmuch as they are not permanent structures).
I think that once people get a taste of outdoor skating in downtown, they'll want it even after CS is built. The 5 indoor rinks we have are pumping along pretty much at capacity, so even a little outdoor rink will get some use.

hmm...maybe the redesigned Moore Square can have a stage area that in the winter is space for such an ice rink....? Sorry off topic...

Nothing new, really. The developers are now allowed to build a hotel on the site, per a change in the development agreement this past summer.

Last I read (can't find the link) was that Sandreuter was proposing apartments for part of the site...I had it in mind it was the parcel facing PE II am n ot sure. I want to say Orulz posted something in the apartment boom thread....

The city sold the Charter Square development group its 1.75-acre site in November 2008, and the group has five years from the sale date to build two towers valued at $100 million.
If the group doesn't complete the project within five years, the city must buy back the property. Thanks to a state law passed in 2009, the city can extend the deadline two years until 2015 if necessary.
