I would say Minneapolis has one of the best skylines in the nation. I like it because it has vibrant nightlife and a variety of stores to satisfy anyones tastes. I also really like the skyway system because you can get from one side of downtown to the other indoors. It's also really cool to have the stadiums and light rail downtown too.

"One more thing---there has been this wierd aversion to building anything taller than the IDS tower. That's just stupid."
Yeah, I don't get it. Ok so the IDS center was the first 700+ foot skyscraper in MPLS, but 225 S. Sixth and the wells fargo center are shorter by mere feet. I think 225 s. sixth is taller when you count "the halo". Who knows? I've only lived in the area for about a year, but it's one of the most beautiful and recognizable skylines in the country.

That will eventually change... and a new "tallest" will be built that will hopefully be just as ahead of its time as the IDS was in the early '70s.

I think your skyline is amazing. I went to Minne when I was little, but I can't remember seeing the skyline. From the pictures I've seen, however, it looks really stunning. I would probably put it in the top 5 of the nation. The fact that it is packed into such a small area is nothing to complain about. That's exactly what makes it so awesome.

I rate it a 9. The Minneapolis skyline doesn't have a lot of buildings but it has a beautiful symmetry that few cities have. The tallest buildings are clustered in the middle with gradually shorter buildings flowing in each direction. I would liken it to Pittsburgh's skyline in terms of symmetry and the number of high rises. I lived in Rochester for a few years and was surprised and amazed the first time I saw downtown Minneapolis from a distance.

Now that I live in MPLS I really am starting to take it all in, I really love this city, and the skyline!
