About 100 protesters were occupying Kanawa Plaza across from the towering Federal Reserve Bank building when it was raided by Richmond police early this morning. Approximately 15 were arrested for refusal to leave the park.

Photos in the "Related" box show protesters in the city's largest and most beautiful (albeit dry as usual) fountain at Kanawa Plaza tending to their "housekeeping."

It looks like the mayor had a choice of either refunding the Tea-Party the $10000 they were required to pay for 3 days of permits or remove the OWS that had not payed for any such permits. It seems he chose the latter. Interestingly, from everything I have read/heard the police were satisfied with leaving them alone but they will ultimately receive the media blame.

It's interesting how two newspapers in Virginia report on the issue of proposed uranium mining in the state.

I don't know how to post both of them in the same entry, so first is Rex Springston's story in today's Richmond Times Dispatch:

http://www2.timesdis...nin-ar-1434052/

The next posting (below) will be from Norfolk.

OK..... well I guess I'm happy and proud about his statement for "big plans" for the riverfront and Shockoe, but I'm somewhat more than dismayed at the industrial park idea..... as long as it's away from downtown and the interstates (where people can drive by and see them and judge the city on it <_< ), I guess it will do fine..... but still, now his idea to pull away in the election should be to promise action (otherwise other candidates might as well use this slowness in progress against him).....

Church Hill resident Rick Tatnall has tossed his hat into the mayoral race. I believe, so far, he is Mayor Jones' sole competitor for the job.

I never would have guessed!!

BREAK POINT MEDIA GROUP owns Downtown Short Pump, the Far West End's news and development website, but now, they are also making a new website, MIDLOTHIAN RVA!! :w00t:

It will serve as a sister site to DTSP, and is hiring writers. Sadly, I can't tackle development news for Chesterfield, because I live in Glen Allen  but still, the website has a really fresh and modern look. It's coming soon, so get excited Richmond!

Richmond is sometimes described as a "hotbed of SOCIAL rest" but that is changing.

Here are pictures of Capital and State police forcibly removing (and arresting) people who were vociferably objecting to their rights being trampled.

Yeah... while I was cruising around downtown this afternoon to the Coliseum to the Courtside Richmond thing, I saw a huge line of protesters, who from what one would think were protesting the abortion case.... there were probably like 100 or 200 people marching through the streets of downtown.... on another note, Richmond seemed quite alive today, as not only the protesters, but also just people out and about on VCU's campus, and of course that Courtside Richmond and the general area around the Coliseum was teeming with people for the tournament games in the afternoon. Funny thing actually, while I was there (at Courtside Richmond) I saw like 20 or 25 people with signs that were begging tickets for VCU's semifinal game.... I felt kinda bad... see this is why we need a new coliseum! More seating capacity! I'm pretty sure We can use this as another reason to replace the Coliseum... :silly:

This is RVA-Is-The-Best, your CAA Tournament reporter (wannabe)

It's rumored that Media General may divest itself of print operations.

If anyone thinks the Richmond Times Dispatch editorial policy and its slant on political news coverage isn't conservative enough, just you wait. :shok:

The RTD isn't conservative at all! Perhaps if the RTD is sold to this "right winger," real, objective news will actually be printed in the RTD for a change.

Being fair and objective, the RTD is hardly a liberal leaning news outlet. It used to have a fairly conservative reputation. Today, the journalism quality is awful but it seems pretty moderate.

Jon Baliles is running for City Council.

He's got a really first-class video announcing his candidacy.

If I lived in his district, he'd get my vote.
