* A new 8-story, 131-room Courtyard Marriott Downtown will be built at the corner of Main and Jefferson. The $21 million project will include approximately 23,000 square feet of commercial space.

Current and recently completed projects in and around Court Square represent more than $55.3 million total investment.

Increased pedestrian activity as a result of new businesses, street animation initiatives, and public improvements will continue to contribute to the youthful glow of eternal Court Square.

According to MBJ, the Tenoke Building is slated to become a Hotel Indigo.

Ive stayed at a Hotel Indigo in Atlanta down near the Fox. The rooms were a bit small, but perhaps that was just that building. It's a very nice business class hotel, and a good addition to the Memphis hotel market and downtown in general. It's a very summery decor in all of the hotels, and the interior of the Indigo just built in Nashville incorporated acoustic guitar wallpaper, a very artsy full wall print of one, etc in the rooms. Id like to see Memphis' blues heritage or riverboats, etc. incorporated into the interior in the same vein.

MBJ reports the Grade Hotel project on Front fell victim to the credit crunch and will be reconfigured as an apartment project with commercial bays on ground level.  Interesting quote from Regions Bank about condos being on their moratorium list for financing.  They think the cash flow and return on investment are low.  Not sure whether that's a problem specific to the sluggish downtown market or a nationwide issue...maybe a little of both.

I suspect it's a national problem.

On the other hand, I've read that apartments are hard to come by downtown, so it might be a good thing in the long run, particularly with the law school going in down the street.

The July 6th Daily News had an article detailing the redevelopment along the Poplar corridor from the Medical Center into Downtown: http://www.memphisda...e.aspx?id=43483

WEll St. Jude should be breaking ground in about a month, and The marriott downtown is adding another tower.  Those are about the only high rise construction projects going on.  The royal pheonix hotel is still not a done deal.

Thanks.  I haven't been to Memphis in a while I heard talks about the One Beale building to be Memphis tallest building didn't know if it has been completed or not.

Nope. It's still a vacant lot as of this posting.

I wouldn't expect some of these planned projects in downtown to happen until the economy turns around.

So far, the only high-rise addition to downtown is the still-unfinished(?) Horizon apartment tower on Riverside Drive.
