The developer is making the switch mainly due to an over supply of higher end condos currently on the market:

I think that it is a bad idea. Instead they should be built, and if they don’t sell just rent them out with the option to buy. I think that many people would end up buying after they lived there for a while.

While it is true that he will be left holding the bill for a while, based on a month by month case he would have a chance to make more money, however he would also have more risk.

If it were me, they would be condo’s with the rental options.
