The following are downtown.

Westin...good naturally
Heathman...very good
Hilton...pretty good
Marriott Downtown...decent
Marriott City Center...pretty good, new Shulas Steakhouse
Vintage Plaza...good
Lucia...good/hip
5th Avenue Suites...very good
Benson...good(some would say very good)
Governor...very good
Paramount...good
Four Points Sheraton...decent
Days Inn...adequate and cost effective

Practically downtown.

deLuxe...bran new renovation of older hotel.  Pretty good.
Doubletree...decent
Northrup Station...pretty good I've heard but don't know much about it

If I had to pick one I'd pick Westin but Lucia is a good choice.

The Hotel de Luxe is a reincarnation of the old Hotel Mallory.  From what I have heard, they have done a nice job with the building.  I have stayed at both the Westin and the Benson.  The Benson has more character, but the Westin's rooms are generally larger.
