I just got this email from Nancy Whitworth:

If you like, you can contact our Zoning office and come by and take a look at the plans that have been submitted to go through the Design Preservation Commission. The DPC will be reviewing the plans during their meeting on August 3rd.

thanks,
nancy

-I will not be able to look at the plans because i'll be too busy the next couple of weeks, but if somebody else would like too, then give us the scoop on it that would be great.  :)

By this time, you're probably on a first-name basis with Nancy, aren't you? :P

Here is a shot of the property, showing a couple towers nearby on Main Street and the sad, vacant Kimbrell's building:

Anybody know what happened at the hearing yesterday? I expected the hearing decision to be pretty big news considereing how big the project was, but I haven't heard a peep.

^^ Nice to be getting some press outside of Greenville for this project.  When all is said and done, it will gain National Attention, I'm sure.  Heck...even Samantha Brown (Travel Channel - Hotels & Spas Diva) may come here to do a show some day.

I was reading the coment by White, about how we are evolving as a destination DT. MAybe I am reading too much into it, but I wonder if there are some plans out there for some more "attractions" DT. We all love Falls Park, but I don't think it by itself makes Gville a "destination." And with a high profile hotel likely coming, I wonder if some of the old ideas will resurface (or perhaps have already); ie IMAX, bigger ZOO, DT theater, national retailer, BPS, etc. It would be nice to see some of these, I just wonder if maybe he is hinting that these are already being planned.

I believe he is hinting at bigger and better attractions downtown.  I think we will hear some big announcements during the next 6-12 months...

I had heard mid or late September, but I am still wondering what happened at the council meeting. Has no one heard, I would have thought the "go ahead" would have made headlines?

My guess is that NOT getting the go-ahead would have made news, but not a much-expected approval.  It may have been delayed though.

"Stuff" appears to be slowly accumulating on the lot, so it would appear that the developers feel at least that it's a done deal.

Is it stuff from the road construction or more like Peacock Hotel construction stuff, whatever it may be?

It's road construction stuff. At least that's the way it looked when I drove by yesterday.

I believe RT is right, but anyone else think it is strange that a "Coming Soon" sign has not been posted yet for this major project?

I guess so, but different projects, different people, different time frames for getting stuff done. It'd be even more impressive to have a coming soon sign on Main. Maybe a perspective from the sign's location- talking about the project and amenities for people to read. I could see the sign of what it will look like with construction going on in the background. It'd be a great way to watch it progress!

Coming Soon signs don't mean much.  Remember Pinnacle had one posted a year ago.

One of those signs cost less thna $1k.  More advertising than commitment.

I wouldn't read anything into it.

A sign should be up before the huge cycling championships, one must expect.  On the same note:  I am wondering why the sidewalk/road is all marked up at the South Main-Broad Street intersection.  I really don't like the appearence of the paint over the brick sidewalk.

Im very excited to see the construction of this hotel from my corner.
Im hoping alot the workers keep me busy through the winter.
What are they doing with that other vacnt lot across the street from there. The one right on Main and Mcbee.
Is there any ideas or plans for that space?
