The New Tokyo Tower which is being constructed in Japan and will replace the present Tokyo Tower will be, for a short time, the tallest freestanding structure in the world.  It will be superceeded by thie Burj Dubai, which will be at least 80 metres taller.  The Sumida tower will be 1008m tall.

Great video of the tower.  Also shows Tokyo's massive size.

that video is really cool.  I really hope that they redesign the tower a little bit before they start construction.  The top part of it looks really cool... but for some reason, I really don't like the arch at the bottom.  It'll be intresting to see what they do with the Tokyo Tower after this goes up.  hopefully keep it around.

I agree with you about the arch at the bottom.  It seems oddly out of place like they started to build another eiffel tower then changed to something else.

Wow, that's awesome!  :shok:

These towers can really be icons for the city. I'd rather see Japan attempt the world's tallest building, but this is still amazing.

Nice video. I'd have to say there is something about the overall look I don't like, not sure what it is. Maybe it's like what metro was explaining. Like the idea, would like to see if there are any other possible designs for it.
