NYC has amazing bridges.  They really have to be seen in person to appreciate the grandeur and sheer number of them.

I've always thought of NYC's bridges (or at least those linking to Manhattan) to be like ancient drawbridges crossing a moat into a castled city. Especially how the bridges from the NJ side over to NY offer tolls - as an honour to their superior city. Well, OK, there's only one bridge from NJ to Manhattan, Staten Island isn't quite so cityish. ;)

Other than skyscrapers, NY is known for its great bridges.  Like the subways, the bridges help tie the city together....Its one of the reasons I think the East River bridges should remain free of tolls...

Hmm, kinda makes Jacksonville's whole "7 Bridges" claim to fame seem pretty weak sauce.  Great photos of some extremely impressive bridges.
