I'm not a native Rhode Islander, but I grew up watching Doug White because we got Rhode Island stations on the Cape.

Oh wow, I've watched Doug and Patrice forever, we've always had Ch. 10 in Norwich.  Doug was an RI icon, that's too bad.

He did local news with class. I can't really think of any anchors as classy.

I've met the guy and he is a class act.  

The same way I like Tony Petrarca for the weather on WPRI 12, I prefer watching Frank Coletta in the morning (mostly because he's a clown and good for a laugh) and Doug evenings on WJAR 10.
