I found a place worse than Wrentham this weekend, IKEA Way in Stoughton.  For those from RI, it's Route 2 or Route 6 on steroids.  There are sidewalks, though, in case you wanted to risk your life walking from box to box...

that place is nuts.  i love the airport-esque signs telling you what lane you need to be in for which store, much like what lane for which terminal at large airports.  it's crazy.  i'd rather drive an extra hour to go to the new haven ikea than deal with that place.  at least in new haven, i can visit family as well.

Yeah, the Ikea area is pretty darn bad. I've made one trip there to get a bathroom sink, and I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. The best part of that whole excursion was coming back to Providence on the "back roads", i.e. through Taunton, which was a surprise in that it's a much nicer town than I'd been led to expect.

The Wrentham malls? As somebody said upthread, you can do as well at a non-outlet store pretty much, if you know what you're looking for and the timing is right. I doubt I'll ever darken their doorstep(s) again.

But then, I've become an anti-consumer -- gimme the Zho-Blo, Building 19 on a good day, or Bob's when they're having a clear-out, and I'm all set.

i went to ikea twice.  first was to buy a dresser.  the second time was to pick up the missed top piece.  i was so pissed... i started building it and got halfway done and i needed the piece for the top, which wasn't in any of the boxes.

i may have said the piece about not getting good deals at the wrentham outlets.  generally, you can get the same or better deals going to filene's, macy's, etc when they're having a sale.  this is especially true for certain brands, like ralph lauren, tommy hilfiger, nautica, etc.  the brooks brother's outlet actually has a lot of pretty good deals compared to their regular store (such as that in the providence place mall), especially ties, which are like $35 in the outlet and closer to $50 in the mall.

I used to work at Brooks Brothers when I was in New York. We had sample sales and I have a collection of $50 ties I bought for $1 each.  ;)

I think BB would be happy to hear that. They've been struggling to attract a younger demographic, to be blunt, their customers are starting to die. It used to be that a father would bring his son in to buy a suit and that's how the brand would work down the generations, that's not how the world works anymore though. I must say, it was nice to be able to work my discount there and the sample sales were amazing (I worked in the corporate office so that's how I got to take advantage of that). It was great because I was the sample size so I could just pull anything I liked off the rack.

i wish i could afford their clothes.  i would seriously have my whole wardrobe be BB.  my favorite suit (although it's a bit snug now), and my favorite dress shirts and ties are all BB.  i just can't afford to shop there anymore, although i think i might have to because i can't seem to find anything i like anywhere else.  the problem is, i sometimes feel a bit stuffy with some of their stuff (although what i have isn't too stuffy).  working in a college, i don't want to look too business-like, but i guess it goes along with having to wear a tie.

Wrentham isn't too bad of a place to go to, unless of course you go there on a weekend.  On some random Tuesday, it's not too crowded.

As for Ikea stories, I went to the one in New Haven about two years ago on a Saturday afternoon.  It was pretty crowded.  But at least it's not in an area surrounded by other heavily trafficked big box stores.

the new haven ikea is really easy to get in and out of... the stoughton one is hell.

i'll post about my wrentham experience on a random week night soon...
