City of Pawtucket Announces 8th Annual Photo Contest
Pawtucket: A City In Focus
Theme: Uncovering the Past: Historic Places in Pawtucket
Pawtucket: Grab your cameras and compose that picture! This year the City of Pawtucket Historic District Commission, the Preservation Society of Pawtucket and The Camera Werks of Providence will sponsor the City of Pawtucket’s 8th Annual Photo Contest. Twelve winning photos will be chosen for the City of Pawtucket’s 2007 City Calendar. This celebrated annual photo contest has become one of Pawtucket’s most anticipated events of the Pawtucket Arts Festival as the winning photos are announced in September by Mayor James E. Doyle.
New to this year’s photo contest will be a ‘collaboration’ between the Preservation Society of Pawtucket, The Camera Werks of Providence and the City of Pawtucket Historic District Commission, offering a photo theme of Historic Places in the City of Pawtucket. This announcement comes in May, as a recognition of both “National Historic Preservation Month” and “National Photo Month”. The photo contest will officially kick-off at 10am on Tuesday, May 30th at the newly restored Pawtucket City Hall. Upon request, the City of Pawtucket will provide a list of buildings currently on the National Register of Historic Places, the Local Historic District and the Preservation Society’s Marker Houses as possible subject matter for entries.
Rules of this years photo contest: We are looking for ‘Historic Places in Pawtucket”. This can include buildings, landmarks or other structures on the list provided or other examples of historic structures within the City of Pawtucket. Our theme of “Uncovering the past” is intended to encourage applicants to discover historic resources within their own neighborhood and to recognize Pawtucket resources that have been saved through respectful and innovative rehabilitation. Color and Black & White photos are acceptable. Photos may be printed from film or digital format but for contest presentation, they must be submitted as prints - mounted but unframed, with a glossy or matte finish. Outside measurements of mounted photo should not exceed 8x12 inches. Prints of other sizes will be rejected. Photos should reflect historic places in the City of Pawtucket. You must attach an entry form (available at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, Pawtucket City Hall, The Camera Werks or on line at PawtucketArtsFestival.org) to the back of your print. Deadline for entry: August 31. All winners will be announced during the Pawtucket Arts Festival on Sunday, Sept. 10 at a public reception where they may meet the contest judges at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center. All submitted photos that are not selected as this year’s winners will be available for pick up after September 31st.
