http://www.projo.com...er.336f285.html

While not in the city, surely close enough (and 'attractive' enough) for out-of-state visitors to feed into the State-wide economy.  Visitors could stay here a do day trips to Newport, Providence, etc.

I have long been yearing for a 'destination' type attraction to add to the array of things to do IN RI to bolster our already strong tourism industry.  This could be what I see as a major missing piece of the portfolio we offer to tourists.  The proposed Utopia and the existing casinos sure help, but they're in CT - we need something here to keep the dollars in RI.  This will surely help the airport as well, as I'm sure a small amount of people will come here to go to this new venue (among other things).

This also makes me feel better about voting down the casino (next door to this) until a better/fairer (is that a word?) 'deal' can be put forth top the residents of RI.

I'd put this right next to Dynamo as the most important true 'touristy' thing to see/do in RI in terms of new venues...

AWESOME NEWS!!!   :D  :w00t:  :yahoo:

this is a different sort of idea... but i think i like it.  i'd like it better if it had an outdoor waterpark that was open in the summer though.  maybe get some of the annoying kids off the beach so i can enjoy it without having kids running around kicking sand at me and screaming.

Sounds like a cool idea! I love the Cape Codder. The projo is a tad inaccurate, the John Carver Inn (owned by the same people) has a small water park inside as well. Unless Plymouth is now not in New England. :D

Anyways, I like the idea of an outdoor water park, too, but this will be able to attract people during the winter as well.

The coolest part about this is that the developer couldn't care less whether the casino gets built or not.  His completely apathetic and dissassiociated with the casino controversy.

FYI: "Residents will have an opportunity to hear about the water park resort Wednesday at 7:30 p.m"
I can't wait to hear the reaction from the town.

i do no believe for one instant that this guy truly doesn't care about the casino. I think that is pure, unadulterated b.s.   <_<

at least he's not suggesting that we vote for the casino or he won't build... so he's taking the unbiased approach.

inside, he's probably secretly hoping the casino gets built because it means more traffic for him.

of course he would want the casino to be built for the massive amount of drive-by shared business - but he is opening saying that its a project that ins't dependant ON the casino.

I know the former owner of a defunct small water-park/mini-golf in Coventry (Lakesdide recreation).  He clealy told me that a stand-alone traditional water park in cold-weather locales are a money pit.  This idea is indoor for good reason - it's available year round!  It also says there will be a large outdoor pool and patio are for the summer months as well.  That could easily expand into a few small slides if the venture is a hit...

i love waterparks! and this one sounds t-riffic, i just don't think that anyone should be lulled into the idea that anything going on in west warwick is happening "just because." I sure hope this does open even if the casino doesn't fly down there, but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.

if it wasn't going to happen without the casino, this guy would have said somethign about how he hopes the casino goes in.  because he specifically made the point of saying this does not depend on the casino, leads me to believe that they'll keep pushing on even if the casino gets voted down (which i hope it does).

and he made the accurate point of saying that they get different clientele, which is very true.  families don't go to casinos (except the ones that leave their kids in the car while they gamble and have child services outside waiting for them when they finish).

but why west warwick then? there's no decent way in or out of there. I can think of a jillion more accessable places for a fun thing like this and none of them are west warwick.  And they aren't going to get a different clientele, not really. Mom and the kids will go to the waterpark while Pops goes to the casino (or vice versa.) sorry to be such a naysayer, but the idea that this project and the potential casino aren't going to draw from the same group of vacationers is just wacko.   :silly:

I'm not sure who you all think the casino clientele is...not everyone who goes to these places is 80 years old and dragging around an oxygen tank. I was in atlantic city for one night (one horrible depressing night of misery) an there were kids EVERYWHERE, just not IN the casino.

and ps, i suspect this guy is keeping his distance verbally from the casino as he doesn't want anyone to tar this project with the same feathers as that potential one... It is a smart PR move.

where else would you put it where you woudln't have serious traffic issues (anywhere closer to providence would be hell getting in and out).  the only place i can think of is where trump wanted his casino by 295 and 6.

Dude, how are people going to get to this thing? you don't think its going to cause serious traffic issues?
There really isn't any good way into West Warwick!  I don't even know why anyone would want a casino there, casino issues aside.

it seems to me that someone right off 95 or 195 would be ideal, although what about Fall River? Seekonk? New Beige? Coventry (Centre o' New Englande), Attleboro...

can someone post a map with a circle on it where this waterpark is going? Maybe i'm wrong about the accessability of West Warwick, but it would be good to see it...

i imagine they'll build new roads... maybe i'm not understanding where west warwick is... i thought it was off 95.

^If I remember correctly, the casino is supposed to go pretty much there, near the junction of 2 and 95.  If this is supposed to be near the casino, I'd imagine it would be accesible via those roads.

Aren't there plans somewhere down the line to rework the 95-2 interchange?

OK - I can put an end to the location debate.  Let me say it's the perfect location.  I grew up 2 miles from where all this is happening (Cowesett section of WW right behind the station fire site).

Issue 1:  The casino proposal included a dedicated interchange between exits 8 (Rt. 95 and Rt. 2 - Cardi's, Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, etc.) and exit 7 (Centre of New England).

Issue 2:  The waterpark is propsed to be in the same industrial park that the casino would go (The side road right next to Cardi's is the entrance to the WW industrial park where both would go).

Issue 3:  This area is less than a few miles from routes 2, 3, 4, 117, 95 and 295 - highway access in this area is very good.

I'll do my best (from my home computer with less links to the map sites) to get up a map...

In that map - all the vacant land along James P Murphy Highway is the industrial park.  There are currently 2 Hotels, the Cox HQ, Paul Arpin HQ, and a few other corporate/industrial properties.  The casinow would more to the left in the map (west - near the end of JPM Highway) whereas the waterpark would be closer to Cardi's...

I wish they'd knock down the Rhode Island Mall and build the waterpark there.

That would be exactly where I was thinking such a thing should go...
