We raised the cigarette taxes here in Michigan and now ours is one of the highest in the country. Now a lot of people just got to Indiana to buy them cheaper.

However, if there was a defined plan in mind, (IE, paying for uninsured children's healthcare) maybe it would have gone over here better.

Also it appears that this will raise the tax rate inline with what neighboring WA has, so maybe the trafficking of cheap cigs wont be as much as an issue as well.
