Ryan Companies has announced plans for a "major" new office tower in downtown Minneapolis. The site, which is at the corner of Eighth Street and Marquette Avenue, is currently home to TCF Bank. Pickard Chilton has been chosen to design the tower that will be kitty-corner from IDS Center. Total square footage and height of the new tower haven't been released.

Hopefully this turns out to be the 1,000ft tower everyone has been talking about.

Good to hear!  Let's hope that the office market can support this.  I think with all that's going on downtown though, if you look at the long term future of downtown, a new large office tower would be feasible.

Especially with the plans to expand mass transit greatly in the near term.

Rumor has it that this tower will be between 40 and 60 stories.

Anyone have more information on this topic as of yet?  Wow, it would be great to see the Minneapolis skyline change dramatically! :)

At 40 to 60 stories, given today's generally glreater floor-to-ceiling heights, with a decorative top, you're talking 700 to 1,000 feet.

^ The most important factor here is the tower will be built on a very small area. The tower will include the blue and green areas outlined in the following photo, which I found posted on SkyscraperPage.com
