I've seen some of these topics for other cities and couldn't find one here for Columbus, so I thought I'd create one. Columbus has been going through some major downtown redevelopment in the past few years with plenty of new developments (both new builds and existing renovations) being announced all the time. Here's some of the recent projects from the last 2 years or so. Some completed. Some under construction. Some just announced.

Yeah, it's really coming along pretty quickly these days. There's currently an iniative to reinstall streetcar lines downtown that have been missing for decades. If that does become a reality (and it looks pretty likely) then I expect a lot more development around those lines to be popping up shortly afterwards.  :D

Wow. Thanks so much for posting all this and bringing some life to the Ohio forum. I haven't checked in for awhile. I moved from Columbus last year and had no idea how much had been going on.

Anyone know of any more updates to Columbus developments or anything new.  Any chance for some new high rise development in the city, and what about light rail/street cars.  I'm surprised this website doesn't have any Ohioans to update the rest of the UPers.  I'm sure I'm not the only Ohioan that moved away on here that would like to see what's going on back there, especially in Ohio's only growing major city.

Thanks for posting this!  Columbus has plenty going on, so I am eager to see more.  Not sure why Ohio (and Columbus specifically) is so slow on this site.

I have to agree.  Especially when the city has about 750k people, and the metro has about 1.6 million.  Just b/c I moved away from there, doesn't mean I didn't like this great underrated city.  I would have stayed if the weather was warmer, especially in the winter, and also if they were w/in a few hr drive of the ocean.  If I have time, I guess, I'll try and scour the Disgrace(Columbus Dispatch) website and Ohio State University websites for any new development news & post it here.  Too bad my friends who live up there don't get really interested in development and urban news.

Sounds like we're pretty similar.  I graduated from OSU in '00, absolutely loved Columbus--but ultimately wanted to get near the ocean with some sunshine--so moved to North Carolina.  Other than geography, I thought the place was just perfect.  There is some truly great stuff going on there, so hopefully the forum picks up.  I still miss the Blue Danube to this day...

I will be going back to Columbus this weekend to attend the Rock on the Range concert at the Crew Stadium.  Hopefully, I will get a good update on any new developments going on the best big city in Ohio for here.  I am really surprised no one from their posts here on a regular basis.

What effect is residential development in and near downtown having on retail and other businesses?  Columbus is a great city, but I always wished downtown could be a little more vibrant.  It always seemed to me, because  Columbus did not have the decline other northern cities had, it did not have a need for those revivals and renaissances that left other towns up north hip and pretty downtown, but too often otherwise stagnant.

Also for those in the know  what is going on near the City Center Mall and the Lazarus site?

From what I understand, City Center Mall is pretty much dead.  That's too bad, b/c when I worked there at Abercrombie and Fitch while I was a student, that mall was always packed early on, but since it was basically a suburban mall fit into the downtown, it was doomed to fail as soon as nicer suburban malls w/ no parking fees were built in the actual suburbs.  I have no clue what they will do w/ that space now.
The Lazarus building has been really changed for the better.  Ohio State University has opened up some artist space there, the Ohio EPA has opened up offices in it, and I think there are more offices and some lofts going into it.

Here is a link to the website of the company doing the work on the Lazarus Building.

Thanks for the info....it looks like some good will come of the old Lazarus space.

Hi all! Long time no type. ;)

Here's some updates on some projects I first posted about:

The Buggyworks has wrapped phase one, and started on a second phase, but has not started work on their tower yet.

Burnham Square sold out before construction was finished. One of the fastest-selling condo developments downtown.

NorthBank is up (what I originally posted was a rendering) and looks beautiful (although way to expensive for my taste):

Posted Image

Bexley Gateway is up and running, and looks a lot like the original rendering:

Posted Image

Carlyle's Watch ran into a bit of a funding issue with the developers after construction was finished. They weren't selling units as the price points they wanted and did a bit of a public auction stunt. It brought on a lot of negative media attention and left many thinking the downtown condo market was in bad shape since this development had to auction some spaces off. They only auctioned 8 units and decided to rent out the rest. I just read an article that they're all filled now and the average rent is around $1300/mo. Not too shabby. The ground-level corner is occupied by a new coffee shop too. One of my favorite new buildings downtown:

Posted Image

I just posted a whole separate thread about the awesomeness of Broad & High, but here's a photo update:

Posted Image

The Terraces on Grant turned out nice. I have a friend who lives there and loves it. I can't find a better photo than this one, but it's a great development located right next to the Columbus Metro Library, which is one of the top-ranked Libraries in the nation:

Posted Image

I went on a tour at the Metropolitan in January and it turned out great. Sort of sticks out in the neighborhood with it's funky design. Can't find a good photo of it, but it looks a lot like the original rendering.

Jeffrey Place is one of the most ambitious projects near downtown (40+ acres) and needless to say, it's been coming along very slowly. It's technically going to be a new neighborhood in itself built overtop of an old brownfield site. There's a few townhomes and condos up, but most of it is still a big empty dirt lot.

The Dakota turned out very nice in the Short North and has sold all but one unit very quickly:

Posted Image

The "Urban Oasis" project has been renamed to "Ibiza" (yeah, not much better) and just had a groundbreaking last month. The renderings look amazing. I'm excited about this one: http://www.ibizaonhigh.com/

Posted Image

So there you go! Updated! :D

Also, here's a newer rendering of Huntington Park:

Posted Image

And a construction photo from two weeks ago:
