Chambers Minneapolis, sister hotel to New York's Chambers Hotel recently opened in downtown. It's located on the corner of 9th and Hennepin (across the street from Solera, the Saloon, and Rock Bottom). The new, five-story hotel has 60 guest rooms, the Chambers Kitchen by Jean-Georges, and Ralph Burnet's art collection of contemporary and controversial British art. The site was designed by the Rockwell Group who also designed critically acclaimed sites such as the Kodak Theater, Hollywood, Calif., W New York and W Union Square hotels, Nobu restaurants in New York and Las Vegas, Coors Field in Denver, and the Chambers' sister hotel in New York City.

Chambers Minneapolis is the first of several new hotels that will be opening in downtown Minneapolis.

** The historic Foshay Tower (1929) will become a 229-room W hotel.

** The Ivy Tower (1931) will become part of the Luxury Collection by Starwood. The building will be part of a complex containing an 18-story hotel and a 25-story condo tower. The hotel will have 136 rooms, including the two-story "belfry-tower suite."

** The F&M Bank (1942) will become a 214-room Westin hotel. The bank lobby will be occupied by a restaurant. The old bankers' offices will be private dining rooms and the open kitchen will be located behind the former tellers' desk. Meeting rooms will be located in the bank vault and the 11th-floor boardroom will become the presidential suite.

** The Pacific development will include a new 10-story boutique hotel.

** The Zenith condo development will include a 155-room W aloft hotel.

** The 10-story Midland Bank building is being converted into a 225-unit hotel called The Hotel Minneapolis.

Here are a few pictures, none of which are mine.

I really like the ultra modernness of it.

Another example of how "modern" Minneapolis is.

^And edgy to boot.

The hotel bar's name is quite literally "The Red, White and F***ing Blue Bar."   And I just put the asterisks there to avoid UrbanPlanet's editing.
